- RY| 1 replyThe caller said he worked for the "technical department at Windows." He said my computer was sending them error messages, and I had to follow his directions to fix it. Needless to say, I didn't fall for that. I asked him for his phone #, and he said 201-259-2658.
I said, what company do you work for, he said "windows." I said "windows isn't a company," and he said "who do you think makes your operating system?" I said "what country are you calling from," and he started to get nasty, saying "what do you mean - what country do You come from." I said Bangladesh (randomly country) , and called me an SOB and hung up.
He sounded Indian (India), but I'm not sure.- Caller: "technical department at windows"
- KlCaller from number 978-978-9357 (MA) asked for mrs xxx then when I responded in a foreign language the caller (who sounded like he had an Indian accent) said F$&K you and hung up.
- JanReceived this call today. Said his name is Damian Logan from Windows Support. I've been aware of these calls for a long time because friends have been financially scammed by them. I let him talk for a minute or two, and then decided to put him out of HIS misery and MINE, by telling him I knew the scam, not to call me again, and "have a nice day". PLEASE DON'T BE FOOLED BY THESE PEOPLE. WINDOWS DOESN'T CALL PEOPLE!!!!!!!
- Caller: Windows?????

- Joan replies to RYi got a similar call and he said he got a call from my computer(?) malware or virus was running in the background and would shutdown my computer by removing everything in it. He said his name was Dominic. told him Microsoft said they don't do this.
Actually the first time the number was 281-593-3503 and he called back with 978-978-9347. I asked him what Computer and he said "the one in your home that has Windows 7". I asked him which one and he hung up. He called 3 times at 6;30 three times in a row but I did not answer. I reported him at the do-not -call and callerscomplaints.org and the FTC for the spoofed call. - uhaneP?C f: 1 V507015011000253; 1-978-978-9347 @ @ 2:20PM MDT. I did not answer the call. I sure wished I had read the postings first before blocking the number. This would be a great play on words. Microsoft Windows vs windows sold for homes.

- Yorba_LindaI got a call from this number; I asked him, how does he know that my machine is having a problem? He is like "I am calling from the main software company" . Can't believe who they are trying to FOOL around...
- EvelynNotice this number several times on my caller ID. I just so happened to be home the last time they called. They WOULD NOT identify themselves and when I asked them why they were calling, the person on the other end told me that I called them?! I would also like to add that he was extremely difficult to understand.

- JordanneI received a robo call from 978-978-9347...Only after repeatedly saying "Hello?" did a person finally come onto the line. She then advised that she was calling for "Cyber Security" and that my computer was seriously compromised. When I told her that I had NOT initiated a request for assistance with my computer, she replied, "Nonetheless, your computer is at risk!" To which I replied, "This sounds like a SCAM to me!" I then asked for her name and she replied, "GO TO HELL!" before hanging up!
- Caller: Cyber Security?
- Eric| 1 replyI received a call from a woman with an apparent south-asian accent, claiming to be from “<mumble> Cyber Security Department”. The caller asked to speak to me by name and said that “they” had been receiving error reports from my computer for “several days” which indicated that there might be problematic software on my computer. She then tried to get me to turn on my computer and follow some instructions to determine which software was causing the problems. I told her that I don’t do that when called unsolicited, and she mumbled something, then hung up. Before she began with the instructions, I thought it would be a sales call for something (lots of boiler-room-like background noise from her end), but hanging up made me think it was something more like phishing. Accordingly, I've reported it to Homeland Security.
BTW, is 978 a legitimate area code? And since when does TPC use an exchange that is also one's area code?- Caller: Somebody's "Cyber Security Dept"
- Mrs. K.I answered the call and they gave me the same dire warnings. I hung up. The same Indian sounding man called right back and I did NOT pick up the phone. He left a message on my answering machine mentioning my husband by name and told him to get f#cked, that his wife is a f#cking [***], a f#cking [***]. Just a lovely way to end a long day after work. Wish I knew who to forward this to as I believe they MIGHT want to work on their employees public relations strategies.
- Caller: Cyber Security
- GabrielI got the call at Midnight (EST). The lady said she worked for the "technical department at Windows in Boston." She said my computer was sending them error messages, and I had to follow her directives to fix it. I told her that it was not very pleasant to be harass in the middle of the night. Then she transferred me to what seem to be her supervisor. He told me it was an urgent mater and I needed to open my computer. I told them NO! and hope they sleep well at night, harassing people the way they do.

- Steve` replies to Eric978 is certainly an area code. I live in it. It is in Ma. You can search http://www.allareacodes.com for any area code you need. Now the question is, did you mean is 978 (area code) -978 (exchange) legit? Probably not. Most carriers will not reuse the same area code and exchange in the same place, makes it confusing. How do I know this? I work for the phone company too :)
- KelseyI received a similar call from the 978 area code phone number below. The male on the phone told me he was calling as a follow-up to a service order. He told me they had detected a virus on my microsoft running computer and asked me to tell me when I was at the computer and had it powered on. I asked the man what company he worked for and he deflected the question. I told him I had no current Microsoft support orders because I am a macintosh user and have no microsoft running computers in my household. He hung up. The caller called again two weeks later and I told him if he continued to call, I would report him. The man replied with "I will continue to call you as much as I like to!" This caller must feel pretty secure in his ability to harass people without consequence. THIS MAN NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.
