- darknight69I was called from this number by a man who said his name was John Williams, who had a strong Indian accent. He said that I will be arrested at my house. And that I have to verify my identity and social security number for him. He left a voicemail for me. I did not return his call.
- Caller: attourney general office.
- JLouReceived a call from a man with a heavy Indian(?) accent. Starts out that there was a suit against my social security #. Was I aware of this? I received calls all day, each one from a different #
- Lisa LMy son rec'd calls on Easter, stating he owed for an online loan of $300.. (tho my son applied for several when he got laid off, he never was approved.) I asked for the number. I called and it was a man by the name of Greg Henry. He had a very strong Indian accent , went to voicemail, but left him a msg to contact me. Early Monday morning he began calling me. I was at work and had to return his call when I was on break. Greg claimed he was with the attorneys office and my son would be arrested by 5pm today if I didn't wire him 369.00 by 3:00. I asked for more info.....like an account number. He said he didn't have one, then proceeded to tell mw a warrant was issued on my sons social security number. He recited the number correctly as well as his date of birth and full name. Then he proceeded to tell me that the loan was wired to my sons bank account. I told him I would call him right back. I hung up, picked up my son and we went to his Bank. I knew he had closed the account but we went in and got a print out of all statements. NEVER was a deposit of 300.00 made on this account! I called him while I was still there,in the bank and let him talk to the assistant branch manager. Greg demanded to speak to the Manager and the address to the bank. and he hung up. From there we went to the p.d. an officer googled him and found numerous complaints on both his name, Greg Henry and the cash advance usa in Freeport texas! The police said it was a scam!!! I called Greg back, and told him. Greg told me he was going to charge my son with deception, and fraud. And the arresting officier is supposed to be on his door first thing in the morning! ITS A FAKE!!!

- Donna lGot a call from a man with a thick indian accent, said he was from the attorney general office. And a payday loan company was going to have me arrested for being default on a loan. Never had a payday loan, this is a fake, just trying to get money and your info. Be smarter than this idiot.
- DonnaIve gotten 4 phone calls in the last 3 hrs from this number. I couldnt hardly understand what he is saying because of his very thick Indian accent. Told me I was involved in a legal case & asked me if I knew anything about it said he was going to put me on hold to get someone else on the phone..."ok" & he did & I hung up at that point. Like I said it was hard to understand him because of his accent.
- EmilyMy call was the same as all of the rest. The man said his name was John Williams from the Attorney General's office in Texas. He would not give me any information about himself or what he wanted me to do, but he kept stating that I had an outstanding payday loan and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. I asked him to verify my address, and he recited a correct former address, but not my current place of residence. He hung up on me twice, but I kept calling back trying to figure out if he was a fraud. I hope no one gets scammed into sending him any money. I am very aware of my accounts and my credit rating, and it's awful to know that there are people out there who would try to jeopardize that.

- Shay| 1 replyI was just called by this John Willams as well and I did have a payday loan ,but i paid it in full. This is very sad.Its hard enough out there and to be scammed is not right I hope they catch his scamming behind and bury him under the jail.

- Alfalfa replies to ShayThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... ory?id=16512428 - KarenWhy is this person calling me at least 6 to 7 times a day? It is very annoying. It is a guy with a heavy indian accent named John Williams. He says that I am going to get arrested tomorrow morning at my home if I do not return his call. I am so annoyed!! How can these people get away with this. Someone is going to believe them and give them all of their information and find out that they are getting robbed. I am going to call my local police and see if they have any suggestions. I am sick of this person. A few months ago it was from a California number with a woman with a chinese accent saying the same exact thing. FYI phone callers.....I still haven't been arrested!!!!

- No nameHe said that I would be arrested tomorrow if I didn't call back . I have been getting calls at least once or twice a month . I have called the Sheriffs department and they said not to answer any long distance calls and I don't even the unknown, if they leave a message I just listen then check to see if is a scam, then I clear it out of my phone. The guy calls himself Greg Henry or John Williams. He claims to be an attorney from the Attorney Generals office in Texas.

- NotstupidJust got the same type call on my message machine...Indian accent, can't really understand the guy at all, can hear others talking in the back ground. I did hear the word arrest in the rant, but the connection seems bad..He spoke very quickly. Left a call back number. He didn't have my correct name,so I am a little puzzled. Also, I have never went for a loan. Only one call so far, but I work with someone who had this same routine happen to them and they were calling our work as well. He went to the police, who called the number and the guy hung up on the cops. Cops then reported it to the FBI because the calls continued (harrassment by phone). Finally stopped after a week. Best advice is ignore them.

- hrjGot a call from this yoyo today claiming to be with the U. S. Attorney's Office (if I understood him correctly, working with the FBI) stating that I was going to be arrested tomorrow morning if I didn't go to Wal-Mart or somewhere and wire $ today. When I asked who the debt was owed to, he mentioned Cash Advance U.S.A. This company and others just like him have contacted my sister, my husband, my kids, friends, my job. I have reported it to the Federal Trades Commission (however, they are currently a part of the federal shutdown), the local attorney general's office, district attorney's office, and other entities. However, it doesn't appear it has done any good. This continues on a daily basis. I have gotten calls from 3 different numbers today. The other 2 numbers are 877-312-1109 (Hawkins & Johnson Litigation) and 855-312-1109 (N.I.P. & Associates). How many companies buy these accounts from payday loan companies and continue collecting even after they have been paid in full? How can I stop this harassment?
