- Greg| 3 repliesGot the same call 3 hours ago. Same statement about computer problems. Said it was a windows issue and not the internet provider. Wouldn't give me his number so I could call back. He finally hung up.
- Nondeplume replies to Greg| 1 replyThe only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/were-window ... scam-6C10631331 - D Allen replies to NondeplumeFunny, got a call at 11:30pm tonight. Sort of late for a courtesy call. A young man calling from the Microsoft Office in London, UK says I have a problem with my computer and he is here to help. Ironically, I happen to work for Microsoft and have been to the London office several times. So when I asked him which office he was in, the tone changed quickly and he made a rather bad attempt at making fun of me then hung up.
Like most businesses, Microsoft won't call you unless you call first. Same go for credit cards. Always tell them that you will call the main (published) support number if there is truly a need to speak with them. - Bernice Taylor| 2 repliesReceived a call around 11:30 from a man saying he was calling from Microsoft, to tell me Windows has a very nasty virus and I should go to my computer and he would walk me through the cleanup. I had just gone to bed and I had never heard of anyone calling about a computer at that hour. I told him I didn't know him and hung up. Smart , right?
- Caller: Microsoft
- c| 1 replyreceived a call from this number said he was from Microsoft got irate with me when I asked him questions
- Warren Taylor| 1 replyJust got a call from "Danny" (elephant jockey, real name is probably something like Rajiv), from "Microsoft Support". If it had been at a reasonable hour, and not 10:09 PM, I would have strung him along for awhile, asking him embarrassing questions like, "If you know that I am infected with malware, you must be communicating with my computer and can tell me the IP address of my computer." They never can answer this question, and eventually I tire of it and I let him know that I am a software engineer with more than forty years experience and I know a ton more about computers than he does and do NOT need his help! In this case, I asked him if he knew what time it was, after which he hung up.
- Caller: "Microsoft Support"
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Lee| 1 replyCalled at 11:30 PM (!) to tell me I had a serious problem w/ my computer. He was calling from "Microsoft"--sure & w/ his heavy Indian accent to boot. Told him I knew he was & hung up. This is not the first time I've been called, either.
- Caller: Phony call from Microsoft
- Warren replies to Bernice TaylorYou are absolutely right, as I said in my post, I know computers pretty well (software engineer for 40+ years, and these call center mooorons from India or Bangladesh are NO match for me intellectually!), and if they call me at normal hours I usually enjoy playing with them a bit. By the time I am done they usually hang up on me. But when they call late at night, asking if he knows what time it is usually gets an immediate hang up. The one thing you NEVER let any of them do, EVER, is have any kind of access to your computer, or install any software they instruct you to. Actually, you NEVER do ANYTHING to your computer they might ask you to.
- RonaldScam ! Do not pick up calls from unknown callers...or from area code 989.
- Mary RuhlThis number just called my home do not call number. Said her name was Rosie and she was calling from Microsoft.
I said "Get my name off your calling list"
And she hung up midway through my saying that.
This number should obviously be tracked and prosecuted. - Kim| 1 replyI got a call at 11:30 pm from some foreigner that said he was calling on behalf of Windows Microsoft and I had a lot of corrupted files on my computer. I was scared because usually when you get a call at that time of night, it's bad news...I thought something bad had happened to a family member, but it was those nitwits! My husband took the phone from me and told them to never call our house again or he'd file harassment charges (I don't know if you can, but it was a great threat as they hung up)!
- Kim replies to KimOh yes....I blocked their phone number through Cox's call-blocking service and I also went to this website:: http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx and filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission. I made sure to document the phone number that called me. Hopefully they can find the culprits and prosecute them...I hope, anyway!
- Kim replies to Greg
- Kim replies to Bernice TaylorSame thing they said to me. I blocked the number and reported them...you should too!

I ended up blocking their number and also reported the number that called me via the Federal TraDe Commission at http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx. I don't know if that'll help or not. I can only hope so!
- Kim replies to LeeYou should block the number & file a report against the number that called you via http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx.
