How To File a Complaint with FTC

1 May 2007

The following are instances where you should consider filing a complaint against a telemarketer.

If you:

  • Have been on the Do Not Call Registry for at least 31 days and are contacted by a telemarketer who is not exempt.
  • Receive a telemarketing call that you believe is a scam or is misleading.
  • Are solicited to pay a fee to join the National Do Not Call Registry.
  • Are not put on a company's internal do not call list after requesting to be.
  • Have received a junk fax without having an existing business relationship with the sender.

You will need to compile as much information about the company as possible to include with your complaint: the company's phone number as transmitted through Caller ID or your fax machine, or provided verbally by the telemarketer, the name of the company, and date of the call or fax. If the telemarketer says it is calling on behalf of another company, you can ask for the name of the telemarketing company in addition to the name of the company on whose behalf they are calling. Read our Telemarketing Script for more details.

Do not forget to provide your phone number on the complaint, especially if you are listed on the National Registry. If you are complaining about a junk fax, be sure to provide your fax number on the complaint. Both the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission can fine telemarketers up to $11,000 per violation.

Complaints may be made to Federal Trade Commission (FTC):

I have absolutely NO idea what you are saying.  Rethink what you have to say and carefully plan how to put it in words.  You will get help a lot faster that way.

If you would use some common sense you would have realized that they are probably from another country.  They are asking what to do to let the caller know they want to file a complaint.  If you would have taken a second, you could easily have understood what the writer meant!!!

This is exactly how you should talk to telemarkters, if you can. Every word is English, it appears to be attempting to say SOMETHING, yet it is nothing but jibberish. Genius...pure Genius

Yes this sounds just like our politicians. Words come out which sound like English but they are really saying nothing. Use this tactic everywhere including when someone asks you for money on the street and even at your job. No major corporation is going to fire a "language disabled" person for fear of lawsuits. Brilliant!!!

god is it?  HA!!!  It is not jibberish at all...Now pay close attention if you can...  And read along with me...  Here is the OBVIOUS translation to what "twan" said... I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO SEND THEM A MESSAGE TO LET THEM KNOW THAT I HAVE WRITTEN HERE.  SO LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW.
Twan is asking for help!!!  And all he has gotten is sarcasim.  Thank GOD not all of us Americans are thoughtless jerks like a lot of the bloggers here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let these people bully you, All you are doing is doing your best don't let people like them complaining about you get to you I am sure they have a flaw in themselves as well, Usually the ones that bully you are the ones that are insecure with themselves, Your doing fine, And never stop believing  in yourself

If you need to file a complaint and you are registered on the Do Not Call List here is the link https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx

Webster's definition of bully

bul'ly (n)
someone who hurts or threatens weaker people

I do not believe the word fits with the occasion.  Deb was just trying to clear things up and help a person out.  I believe the more appropriate word would be - translator.

word of advice: Don't use online translators to translate from one language to another. Sometimes, It's a bit confusing.

 need proof?
^ that translated to spanish, and back to english(using altavista babelfish) it says:

word of the advice: It does not use the translators in line to translate from a language to another one. Sometimes, it is a confusion of the small piece.

Thats part of their scam. They make it sound different or interesting to get you to call back. If it makes you curious then they might just get you to call back and dont forget when you call a TOLL FREE number you are giving them your phone number! Even if you block it! YES! They are paying for the call so the law allows them to know your number. The person answering may not have it but it goes on their bill and with todays computer programs they will have the number and be able to cross reference it to your call.

Wow, Fed-Up.  I would have never thought of that.  I was just getting ready to call them back and ask to be put on thier internal do not call list, but now I will wait for them to call me back ( which I know they will).  Thanks.
