I'm hearing impaired...and what I do is VERY effective:  I just simply tell them my hearing aid is broken and I can't hear them.  ;)

love it,  :) Next time start talking to them about the UN-Dead problem in the YOU STATE,  (not my idea heard it on a political conference call) laughed my butt off.  What are the _______ (fill in the Telemarketers organization)doing about the undead problem in the state of (YOUR STATE)?     Ask their names  ect,  then at the end thank them for calling and let them know you appreciate their time and information and have a nice little record of the call, and that you have put your name on the please do not call list so IF they dare to call back your attorney will be happy to discuss this matter further with them.  GOOD LUCK EVERYONE GO GET THOSE TELEMARKETERS

I would never let my kid listen in on a phone conversation with a stranger -- all it takes is one second to say something inappropriate.

Speak something in a foreign language or make up a foreign language. They will never call you back.

Cool video.

I guess I would have to really know what I am talking about to actually talk to a telemarketer the way that guy did  He seemed like he had followed up on the "Lodges" part of it ( or read about it ), and was prepared to really confront the TM in an adult-like manner, about what he knew and heard about the "Association".

I just tell them that I have too many bills, and a Mortgage to pay, and keep telling them "No Thanks", ( If I DO answer, that is ).

Sometimes when a telemarketer calls and ask for whoever, I say, "Just a minute,"  and lay the phone down and don't come back..until i know he gave up. Or I'll start reading from the Bible. Sad too, as it is, they don't want hear it.

You can read all about the AAST and read their telemarketting scripts at:
www.statetroopers.org/Fundraising.htm
Also they say they are exempt from the do not call list since they are a "charity"

The real problem with telemarketing is the people who actually buy things from them. I don't know WHO they are, but if it were not lucrative it would stop.

I like to give them each other's numbers. Say, "OH I AM interested in your product, but this is my friend's number. Can you please call me back at 760-526-8132? If I don't answer, just keep calling until you get me!"

I also keep their numbers and call when I'm really pissed off.
And since we can't crank call anymore, we can use our material on TMs.

I just answer the phone "Police Department."  When they call back again, I answer it the same way.  I usually don't get a call back after the second time.

oh yeah, if u wanna think about it, there is a up or downside to almost every company. its better than being unemployed, or wrking for some fast food job anyway, i mean, now im successful and almost done with school, and there are lots of people who are doing the same. 45k may not hav been a lot to some of you, but for a telemarketer, who is going to school, it was great! of course i make more than that now, but what else would hav paid for school? mom or dad? lol! some fast food job with crummy hours?? are you serious??

I just stumbled upon this sight.  I hear some of the people that say they like to mess with the TM.  It is true they do.  It's entertainment for them and believe it or not it is for the TM too.  A TM's day consists of making one call after another each making sales all day and like you said GOOD MONEY.  It may seem like the TM is caught by surprise by what the person is saying to mess with them.  But it is really just a break for a few minutes to here people having fun.  After the TM hangs up he laughs too and turns to his buddy next to him and tells him what was said and then they both laugh.  Then it's back to "DIALING FOR DOLLARS".  Sure there are some NEWBY TM's" that don't know how to respond.  I'm not a newby and very seldom in a month or two do I get a person wanting to play a joke  (which means there having fun, not hating the TM), so I go along with it for awhile and see if they really have something funny to say and have fun myself.  The guy who posted the video.  Any experienced TM could tell right away hes just a good ole boy kicking back in his recliner having some fun.  Like I said my entire day is selling and talking to cool people even if they don't want to buy.  The next person will always buy and they do.  The Salary and bonuses plus the fun we TM's have on the phone makes for a great day at work.  "You should try it sometime".  $45,000 a year will pay your bills and get you through school but it gets much higher than that when you make a career out of it.  There are experienced TM's making more than some college grads.  I can assure you that.  As far as people who are really mad and don't want to be called (not even to have fun with the TM).  Putting somebody on the DNC list is part of our job.  Absolutly Mr/Mrs Smith.  I will be Happy to put you on our DNC list.  Please keep in mind this may take up to 30 days to take effect.  You have a great day SIR/Maam!!!

When I get that annoying call, I wait until they ask that first question.  I pause for a few seconds and then, in my best Beavis or Butthead voice ask, "What are you wearing?"

The TM on the other line violated FCC rules by saying "WE" when you're calling on the behalf of an organization it's a big NO NO to say "WE" "US" or "OUR" because it directly associates you WITH the Charity and you're merely calling on behalf (No need in replying to me saying I'm wrong because I used to be a paid Fundraiser for Civic Development Group and we called on behalf of that same organization ALL the time)  Bad job indeed!!  And also had the TM been a top notch con artist he'd read his special instructions and it'd had all of the information about the chairman and location of the organization he was just a rookie and he also didn't pitch his voice down either which would have allowed him to be more controlling of the entire conversation.  He should have used worthy rebuttals as well ones which are assigned to certain calling types.  Such AS:  The low income rebuttal!  "Sir/Maam I understand times are tough but what most people in your situation this year are doing is pledging just a little less.  Let me get you involved with (a smaller dollar amount) booster that way you can support those troopers this year....Fair enough?  If no then.  Ok I tell ya what I'll do is get you involved with the minimum donation (smaller dollar amount usually 10 bucks) and you'll still get your active supporter decal because it's not how much you give it's just the fact you help!! Would that be ok?  If no then end call!!!

Also keep in mind I was not a Tm that sold anything.  I was a fund-raising TM that called and "insisted" you give a donation to various Police and Firefighter Organizations!!!  So basically my JOB was a dead end job unlike the previous guy said on the msg board.

I google a number to identify its history.  I then entered into my cell phone list the telephone numbers of these callers.  I title them as "do not answer".  My cell ids the numbers and I continue on with my life.

I once got a call from a telemarketer in college, and it had been a bad month for these guys calling us. I decided to have some fun with this one guy, had my roommates stand around to boot. This guy tells me he wants to give me a vacation to I don't remember, somewhere with surf and sand. So I tell the guy that one of the conditions of my parole is that I can't leave the state.
There's dead silence. Then the guy tries to get me a vacation inside the state of Indiana (I can't imagine where to.) So I end up saying that the last time I went on vacation I basically got drunk and killed a guy in a barfight and that it was best if I just stayed at home.
He said that was a good idea. I actually got a TM to agree with me!

I have to admit though that it wasn't an original idea. My dad once told some army recruiters over the phone I was in prison for narcotics. They never called back. So I took his idea and ran with it. Try it out: abuse of a corpse might be a little over the top... but nothing is too disgusting for a TM.
