Silent Spam Calls to toll free numbers

Is anyone else having problems with numerous silent calls to toll free numbers from random numbers at all hours of the day and night.  For several months, I would receive two calls at the same time from 2 different geographic regions.  The calls were almost always 1min +/- 10 seconds.  Lately the calls have been single calls of 2+ minutes when the call hits our VM.

My toll free provider has credited a bunch of the time but the time is not the real issue.  The phone ringing at all hours of the day and night on my client support line is really a pain.

I have received a few of the the late night propaganda calls from the political nutcase in California but the silent calls are now happening almost every day.

Me too!  I have been getting these weird calls all the time, they used to come in on my cellphone Nov/December.  I once dialed back (long distance) and a man answered but I did not catch his company name.. I told him stop calling and he said he needed my phone number to put in the computer (no thanks) and asked if I had a toll-free line I said yes (didn't give him the number).  He said one of their duties is to call on behalf of Telus to test phone lines (what a crock) I told him that could not possibly be true and I would be complaining to Telus and got off the line as quick as possible -sorry guys I don't have that number handy but I'll bet it's defunct by now.  Since then to today I've intermittently tried calling some of the numbers back but get a computerized answering machine that says nothing and won't record a message, or like today re: 1-289-274-2657 'your call cannot be completed as dialed'.   So this past month or two, having reviewed my tollfree billing, now they seem to now be using my tollfree number (coincedence? probably not, there's only 5 tollfree in Canada not too hard to figure out).  I am guessing this is some sort of computerized system which puts a fake number on call display.  Telus and Telus mobility have told me they can't do anything about it except offer to change my number for free (no thanks I use it for business and do have some public info with it).  Sometimes I record these through CRTC do-not-call https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/plt-cmp-eng  but have never received any followup.  These communications corporations have all the records - they should be held responsible for resolving nuisance issues like this.!  How much of my exhorbatent bills go to preventing and resolving nuisance callers and fraudsters?!  Anyway thanks for reminding me to complain again to Telus and try to have them reverse the approximately 0.45/m they've charged me for these nuisance calls.

We have been getting these calls too at strange hours and most of them are showing bogus area codes that don't exist on the caller ID.  Fortunately, our phone system lets us mute the calls so we are just notified via email but our phones don't ring during our closed hours so calls won't get routed to our cellphones during off hours but it is becoming a problem.  If anyone knows how to stop the calls, please post.

I used to receive such calls on a regular basis to one of my toll free numbers.  The caller ID frequently read "Lists Tru".

The calling numbers varied, but some, when researched, led back to a variety of unrelated businesses and residences.  All of the numbers at that time were from the 817 area code, but as I have often said here, a lie is a lie, and spoofed is spoofed.

I never could figure out the real source of the calls.  Since it was a number I was using solely for DISA (Direct Inward System Access) it had never been published anywhere, and I had held the number a while when the calls started.  When I later dropped the line I was still getting those calls.

They did not seem to be probing the number to see if they could dial out, or engage in any other activity.  And I can't imagine that this many "nobody there" calls were simply call abandonment by a predictive dialer.  I tried providing fax and modem tones as bait, but there was no response to them.

I have no idea if my old mystery calls are related to your calls, but if anyone knows who "Lists Tru" is, I would be interested to hear about it.  They still owe me a dollar or so in usage charges ;^) .

    James,

While I am always running around on here telling people to use call blockers, business lines are a different situation. I don't know who you are using for telephony, but many VOIP providers have very capable cloud based call management, including the ability to implement auto-attendant/IVR call handling.

Perhaps you could have your toll free answered by an auto-attendant and let it handle this nuisance? It isn't hard to set up something basic. It might even lead to you getting more functionality out of your phones.

I frequently use VOIP.ms for this sort of task, but they are just one of many, nothing special about them. That said, they are inexpensive, and once you figure out the quirks of their system, it is pretty flexible.

1-289-274-2657 minutes ago now answers with computer-msg saying John Bald is not available and to leave a message.  So I just called twice and left a nice long blank airspace.  Dialed out by my head office's phone line - he wants to start dialing their corporate tollfree number too then so be it.

OP here.  My toll free provider is stumped and is offering to discount more minutes but it is the aggravation of it ringing in the middle of night.  My toll free number rings to my office and is forwarded to my cell if I don't answer there.  I am a one man show and cant very well turn off my phone but will probably have to change my toll free number eventually.  I have national advertising running with that number.

The caller ID info is for mostly residential numbers over the entire US.  Both the name and PX show up but the names are often odd names.

I got this new number to get away from another older number that was 1 repeated digit removed from the toll free line of the largest bed bug exterminator in New York City...  When the exterminator was running radio/TV promotions, I received panicked calls at all hours of the day and night from welt covered New Yorkers.

Now these calls are coming in from 1-647-367-4013.  They called 6 times yesterday and twice already this morning.  I don't have time for this.  Looked it up, can't find any info.  Dialed it from my head office's phone line and got computer-robot answering 'the person you are trying to reach cannot answer at the moment' so I left a nice blank airspace voicemail for them.

Website www.tnid.info states "tnID Database Record For 647-367-4013
    Original Telephone Company:  Fibernetics Corporation
    Estimated City:Toronto
    Estimated Region:  Ontario
This file has been accessed a total of 2 times.  [ Delete File ]

Hi I have been getting calls from 647-367-4013 for about a month, the call display says PayPhone, my TF number is forwarded to my cell, I am going to block this now that I see it is spam.

A fair number of the calls I get on my new TF number are 817 numbers but bounce between both sides of the country.  I am now getting 3-4 calls every day with most being in the early morning hours.

I am now wondering if this is a simple scam to screw ATT out of money by "dipping" into caller ID sharing funds.  Google "CallerID4U" scam.

This is a small garbage sampling. My phone company says they cannot help or stop the calls.

Did a quick search and found this weirdness.
Lists Tru shows up as several different phone numbers, but all with the 817 area code and all at:

    Lists Tru
120 Wanda Way Hurst, TX 76053‎
    (817) 282-1845
    Real Estate Management

The building also has a number of other businesses, some telemarketing, listed in suite numbers.
