got the same text message.  Have a 254 area code with sprint.  really drives home not to answer text messages from people you dont know. and not to give out personal information.  what was weird is that it was an email that came into my text messaging box.  I have a blackberry and the two were supposed to be seperated.  thats what made me think freud.

Got the same message 6/14 @ 12:55pm on my Sprint 512-791-xxxx. 'Course google didn't find it then since it takes time to show up on a new search.

    Yes, SCAM.

They just spam all the numbers they can hoping someone will be stupid enough to give them information.

To emphasize what confusedinwaco said, NEVER EVER give your personal information (credit cards, home address, etc.) to anyone you do not know and trust - ESPECIALLY if it came from an unsolicited text message, email, or phone call.

If you get a voice call, always ask them for their name, the company they represent. Then tell them that you will call their main office to verify their need to ask for information (which we already know is fraudulent). They will hang up quicker than you can imagine.  My mom was getting calls asking for my brother. He doesn't live there and she told them that. They kept calling. Say this when you realize who it is (a scammer) and they won't ever call again:  "Yes, operator. Notify the police that this is the call I want traced."  ;-)

I've been getting these scam text messages for a good two months now, obviously getting pissed in the meantime. So, I finally wanted to see exactly what would happen if I called on a different line and went through the process.
It's an automated system that answers and says that due to frequent fraudulent activity the account with a bank I don't have and never had has been deactivated and to reactivate press 1. So I did.

Next the pleasant robot woman on the end of the line asks a surprising question, "what is your 16 digit credit card number?" Who would've seen that coming since it's apparently my account with them that has been frozen! Hmmm, what a conundrum. So I entered 1234 5678 9101 1121, that's 16 digits, so why not? Apparently she was fine with just getting 16 random numbers because she then moved me on to the next step.

So, being satisfied with merely receiving sequential numbers, robolady asks for an expiration of course, because that makes since to reactivate my fake card number, so apparently my 1234 card will expire in December of 2025. She was made happy once again! Yay!

Now what reactivation process would be complete without a four digit pin??? Of course she had to inquire about that, so I once again used the 1234, because hey, it's not like that's the combination some idiot would use on his luggage. Again, very happy with the results she got, she pleasantly replied that my account has been reactivated. YIPEE!!!

So, I think that I'll do this drill as often as I would like to help clog their little system with utter crap and hopefully these idiots will eventually be shut down. I would hope that maybe others would do this too, that way the power in numbers may really wreak havok on them. Just make sure it's from a land line or some other number than the cell that you receive these text messages on in the first place, because apparently it doesn't matter.
