- the1voiceThis appears to be an upcoming epidemic. WEB ACCESS 900 990-2856 showed up on my bill as being made directly from my wire phone on 11/08 at 11:31pm. Yes the basic charge for 1 minute is $34.95.
If you have received similar charges from 900 990-2856 on your telephone bill, I recommend you submit a post here regardless of how many have posted the same thing. Hopefully this will help our case with Verizon to have these illegitimate charges removed from the bill. - NancyYep, same deal on our phone bill today! Nobody was home at that time. Unless our dog learned to unlock the door, walked into the house and dialled the phone... We'll be calling Verizon tomorrow.
- Caller: Web Access
- kramYes, it was on our bill, too. It's listed as occurring on a Friday morning in late October; my wife would have been home at that time, except she had JURY DUTY that day, so we KNOW no one was home.
I haven't called Verizon yet, but that's what I'll do next!- Caller: Web Access
- Mary HI received the same charge, plus taxes. The date on my bill is 11/5/07, at 10:49p.m. for WEB ACCESS, 1-900-990-2856.
This was a virus or malware. Starting on 11/5/07, our computer kept trying to access the web, even though we didn't want it to. After trying to fix the problem ourselves, we took the computer to our tech. He got it out and suggested that we get a 900 block on that line. We have dial-up, the computer is the only thing on that line, but we don’t have caller ID on it to know if the computer dialed out or if something dialed in.
I have not called MCI/Verizon yet, but I did call my carrier, AT&T. They said they could not take it off the bill, that it was some kind of web access charge to connect through that site. They said I had to work it out with MCI/Verizon.
I have also checked our Attorney General’s website; they suggest calling the National Consumer League, 1-800-876-7060. - Mary H| 2 repliesUpdate to earlier post re 900-990-2856
My phone company, AT&T, told me to call MCI, who the 900 number was routed through, to have the charge removed. MCI said that they couldn't do anything about the charge, the call was just routed through them, and if I wanted it off the bill I had to talk to AT&T. Tried again with a customer service rep from AT&T. I explained that I called the other day and that the AT&T rep said that there wasn't anything AT&T could do. I then told her that I had talked to MCI, and MCI said AT&T would have to remove it. I told about this website and all of the postings about that particular number. I finally had to say "wanted to see what you all can do before I call the National Consumer League." She took off the $37.95 and put a block all of my telephone lines, residential and business. The 900 block is free with AT&T; you just have to ask for it. - New Yorker abused by Verizon replies to Mary H| 1 replycall 1-800-444-3333 verizon custmer service employees have no idea what it is. I went yesterday to discuss this issue to the walk in verizon's customer service representatives located at 125th street and adamclaiton powell in Manhattan, New York. The guy I spoke to he had no idea, what it was. He started telling me that I am late and threatened to disconnect my phone the next day. I told him he did not answer my question and what he said was wrong. He got pissed off and kicked me out of his little partitioned office because I told him he was wrong and he told me to go wait for the next representative. The second representative had attitude but at least she did not refuse to serve me. Anyways, I spoke to other people and gave me the number to call. I think all of you should call that number too.
- JEJ from SCMy wife & I also got an unauthorized billing for the same number via MCI, 34.95 for 1 min. on the morning of 10/15/07, and another 34.95 for 1 min. on the evening of 10/16/07. We are in the process now of disputing the charges with AT&T. I can not understand why these companies are being so resistant to removing these charges, when it's so obvious that this is some type of scam. I just know that we will not pay for any unauthorized charges.
- JT in TNThe following item just appeared on my November AT&T phone bill. We, too, had a problem with spyware and viruses that we had to have removed from our computer. That bill was $150+ adn now we get this on our phone bill. Thanks for the tip to call the national consumer League. It looks like this is a scam by some hackers to get easy money. Anyway, we're not going to stand for it.

This portion of your bill is provided as a service to MCI, a Verizon Company. - lovergirlz34just got the same charge on my qwest bill. Has anyone found out what this number is for please email? lovergirlz34@yahoo.com
- Almost in the doghouseMy wife came home today and was not very pleased with me. She thought that I was calling 900 numbers. I immediately went and found this website and found that I was not alone. The number 1-900-990-2856 not only showed up on my Verizon phone bill but many others also. The call came from MCI. Evidently MCI is getting used to the calls about this number on peoples phone bills. My wife called them and they said that after 7-10 days that the charge would be removed from our bill. I was quite surprised that there was no hassle.
The best thing I could suggest is to get a 900 Block on your phone. My wife and I thought that there was never a need to cause we don't call them. Well it turns out that our computer must like to call them. Bad news for him......HE'S BEEN CUT OFF!!!!!!!!!- Caller: MCI
