Actually this is a legit number for Chase security.  After they asked for my full account number and three digit pin, I hung up and called the number on the back of my card, and they told me there really was a fraud hold on my card.

I received a voice mail stating that it was Chase Fraud Department and there was a fraud alert on my Chase Safire credit card ending in xxxx, and asking that I call 800.688.7944.  I called Chase, and they have no record of the 800.688.7944 number as number as part of their system.  BEWARE.

Do not give these people any info -- they call pretending to be fraud prevention and ask for your mothers maiden name and card  number

At first I called back but the first question they asked was the last 4 digits of my bank account... which is super suspicious. So I called the number on the back of the card instead. Chase confirmed that the number is fake since there has been no fraud flags on my card.

I received a voice message saying to call 800-688-7944 bc of a fraud activity on my Chase sapphire. I called that number and they first thing they asked was for my mother's maiden name. I thought it was very strange and immediately hung up. I then called the number on the back of my credit card. The Chase securities team member said that if you call them on your verified phone number, they wouldn't need you to ask security questions. She also said that there was actually another phone number not associated with my credit card that called last night. I'm assuming that scammer was trying to get into my account and called me this morning to get more information to hack into my account. Please don't trust any calls you get over the phone and never give out your information freely. Always call the number of the back of your card!!

The online verification URL for this new card is not the Chase verification page. I also called the number on my existing card, and not only was there no such account set up to verify/activate, but upon being transferred to the overall Chase account department, there had been no attempt (failed or otherwise) to set up any other Chase account.

Verified SCAM!   Someone called left a voicemail for me to call Chase Fraud Protection @ 800-688-7944, saying that a Chase Sapphire card was newly opened, and to call to verify.  I googled "Chase Fraud Protection", found a different legit 800 number, and called (you can do the same).   Chase confirmed that the number 800-688-7944 is NOT associated with Chase, and they said it was someone trying to scam me.  I have never had a Chase account, and have never applied for their credit cards.
