Threatening message about complaints against us and that we had better call them back to resolve. They ended it with “you have been officially notified”

Left a message about complaints against my ex-husband. We haven't been married in 21 years. Said he has officially notified.

Left message about complaint against somebody who is unknown to me and that the person they named better call them back to resolve. They message ended with “you have been officially notified”! What seem very suspicious is that my caller ID showed instead a name the word "hidden"!

Received voicemail that have documents to appear at either residence or place of employment. Also stated at end of call, you have been official notified.

My brother called me told me he received a text to his phone that isn't in any way connected to me. Text number that it came from was unknown message stated to call back to 1-888-718-0494 immediately there is a pending warrant out for my arrest. It will be delivered to my place of work or my residency. I have been served. Well my brother and I are 850 miles apart I wonder where they are going to serve this too.

“This message is intended for Rudy Dearing. (this person is unknown to me)I received a fax order regarding a complaint that was filed against you I have been retained to serve you with documents to appear at either your residence or place of employment if you have any questions or concerns about this complaint or wish to rectify this matter if you need any key on your phone or call our office directly call 888-718-0494 you have officially been notified.”
The person named in the email is not known to me. The call appeared to come from “No Caller ID”.

They call threatening to come to my door but you can’t even get trough on the number they leave. Complete scam

The fake process server/location finder extortion attempt usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

I received a call from this number 888-718-0494, the voice-mail they left started with against you & then went into the whole dialog listed above in other comments, they start talking before voice-mail even kicks on. Came up as a restricted number, I only got the phone number from out of the voicemail

Same thing as everyone else.  Calling using my maiden name from 12+ years ago... officially served.  Ok...

Just got this call for someone who has never been at this number.
How do I know? Our number is for a law office that has had the same number for 30+ years.

Called for my ex husband's new wife...same as everyone described...ended with you've been notified...part of me is sad it was a scam haha

I got a similar call from "Account Services" and they wished me "good luck" at the end of the message.  Really....

Exact same as everyone else above....I feel so sorry for people that fall for these scams
