Our office gets a call from this number every two or three days - there is no one on the other end when we answer.  This has been happening for a month or so now and is extremely frustrating.  Anyone have any suggestions for how to block this number, seeing as it is a fake one?

I have a way I block such calls, you must have caller ID to know the number, I log it into my phone's phone book as 'DNA (no not answer) and the company name or what kind of call it is like 'DNA Survey Co' and the number and then  go down to what kind of ring I want this one to have, and select NO RING! This takes care of any future calls, it appears to be ringing in to them but doesn't to me. My phone lights up when a call comes in and when it's not ringing I ignore it. I do the same on my cell as I often have my home phone forwarded to my cell, and why should I pay for their call? Good Luck!

Yeah right - firstly, learn to spell. Secondly, that is pure BS, they can't "take over" your phone number. And it is spelled "phishing". In this case, it's a moronic credit company or credit card scammer and they are "phishing" for your credit info. You'd think a Fraud Investigator would know that.

i have to agree...i have had many calls from this number and when i answered a recorded message told me to stay on the line for a lower intrest rate for my credit card. at first they had me convinced until the questions started...and then i thought to myself if this was my credit company they would already know all my information. phising for sure!!!!

It actually is possible; that's called cramming. Search for "phone bill cramming" at Google if you don't believe it. Some criminals do call random numbers to verify that they are in service to perform bill cramming, but it's much more common for these troublemakers to get numbers from phone directories because A: it's cheaper, B: it takes less time and effort, and C: it doesn't leave a paper trail as calling random numbers would. But I must say that it looks like the "fraud investigator" needs to work on his/her English before (s)he posts on a blog and actually expect to be taken seriously.

Hey unknown': The way you posted here. It seems you are one of these scammers. Because its against the law, weather incoming or outgoing call to not disclose at the beginning of the call, that there will be a charge and how much. So therefore I strongly your so called credentials that you are a fraud investigator.

That's hilarious,  as I just got a call from that number, but no one was on the other end ... mechanical voice says 'forwarding', then nothing.  Funny thing is I just switched to PRIMUS a couple of weeks ago, and they offer Free Telemarketing Guard with basic HomePhone.  So if it was Primus calling me that's pretty funny, as I've added that number to the list.
Btw, I was getting about 4 - 6 nuisance calls a day (888, 800, etc), and now maybe one a week at the most.  Works like a charm.

      +++++HOW TO STOP ANNOYANCE CALLS+++
      FOR FREE CALL TRACE
If you are a customer of MTS (Manitoba Telecom Services)they offer a free service they do not advertise very well.  This is an alternative to paying for call blocking feature. I spoke to a MTS CUSTOMER SERVICE REP, and they told me to enter *57 or dial 1157 when you recive annoyance calls. An announcement will yhen indicate that you have activate Call Trace.  Then you will Press 1 to proceed.  You then can notify police immediately if the call is threatening.  For annoyance calls, record a record of at least ten calls before contacting police.  The system will monitor how many times the number calls if you enter 857 each time, once the call log reaches around 10 calls of that number police will intervene. A police report is then required.  A police report is siple to fill out, often it can be completed over the phone in minutes.
The best thing we can do now to stop these calls untill the government is pressured to approve the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST.

WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO PAY OUR TELEPHONE COMPANY TO BLOCK HARASSING ANNOYANCE CALLS??

That number registers, at a minimum, 3 times a day on my caller ID.  I now consider it a form of harassment.  I tried answering it 2 times ... no one seems to pick up so I'm assuming it's a computer generated call.  My fear is it's one of those scams where they can change your Long Distance provider just because you answered it, or someother type of scam.  Someone has to know where/who it originates from and what the scam is behind it.

Who do we need to contact to report this to and complain about it ... if it's telemarketers then they should be losing their telemarketing license for making harrassing and annoying calls.  As far as I'm concerned it's an invasion of my privacy.  The CRTC ... who do we call/contact to get this stopped?

        Hello Hivin,

I have contacted the CRTC and what they had advised me that you have to call your carrier and they would call that #. As per the CRTC & the CRTC regulations your carrier has to get involved and you do not have to purchace a special service to have this stopped.

I had to call Rogers Executive Ofice and they got it removed, but I am know back with a vengance and I guess I will have to contact Rogers again to have them stopped.

        Hope this helps

I pressed "1" just to see who they were.

Don't EVER press "1" or any number when a message or number offers you anything to do with your credit card.  Pressing a number can sometimes allow them to access your phone account and charge things to it, or they can talk you into giving them your credit card information and then using it.

I went to my bank about this and they said it is a scam that the police are working on.  No reputable bank or credit card company would ever offer anything over the phone and absolutely NEVER with an automated system.  Please report these calls to your bank if the message uses your banks name, or your credit card company if they use your credit card company name.

A small break-through in the 123-456-7890 telemarketting issue.  It is a company telemarketting from the far east for companies here in North America.  If your call starts off with a message about getting lower interest rates on your credit cards, the company you want to complain to is
      MUTUAL CONSOLIDATED SAVINGS.
      Their website is http://www.mcsprograms.com/
You can email their consumer privacy person (who remarkably has the same email address as the person you email for a quote on lower interest rates ... hmmmm...) and let them know how happy you are with their choice in telemarketting firms.
Report a phone call from 123-456-7890:
Your name or nickname as you would like it to appear in the title of your post.
