Call was from "Cancer Update", didn't answer, no message left on machine.  Tried calling back, said number had been disconnected.  I have gotten many calls from this "Cancer Update" that I don't answer.  Have no association with cancer at all.

P.S.  I'm on the Do Not Call list.  How can these people keep calling?

The DNC is for telemarketers only, however, it does nit keep the criminals, scammers or illegal telemarketers from calling. Charity, political and some survey's are exempt.  Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

We never answer numbers we don't recognize. Since someone indicated that it was a "cancer update" I suspect it is the ACIR or American Cancer Institute of Research or something like that. When ever they call it comes up Anonymous. They are the worse! They probably give .01 for every dollar they collect. They were rated no stars by the BBB for charities.

    Screw them!

If you asked to be placed on their internal Do Not Call list, they have 30 days to comply after which you can file a complaint with the FCC and/or take legal action against them for violations of the TCPA.  If you have not asked to be placed on their internal DNC list, as a charity (scam or not) they can continue to call until 30 days after you request to be placed on their Do Not Call list.

From the Charity Navigator website it appears only 32% of funds raised is actually used to fund cancer research, the rest is fund raising and administrative costs.

    http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay ... 64#.U9PBP-NdWuE

There a much better cancer research funding charities out there if you wish to donate to cancer research.

I have been getting calls from (202) 830-1824 and (202) 830-1988 every day for months. No one ever leaves a message. I have the option to block unwanted callers and have blocked both numbers so thank goodness the phone doesn't ring. But these numbers still show up in my phone log each day.

The caller ID says AICR, which if you Google it, stands for American Institute for Cancer Research. AICR's real phone number is (202) 328-7744, not the spoofed numbers that keep calling me. Anyone pretending to be affiliated with cancer research should be immediately brought to justice, and are the lowest scum imaginable.

No message - just a nuisance call while I was out. One of hundreds that our tax dollars are wasted on preventing.

No one else reading this page can ''take you off'' anything on your behalf. These forums are for call recipients to share their experience, attempt to identify call sources, and optionally offer advice, as others before you have done.

Charity calls are commonly placed by a commercial fundraiser, such as Associated Community Services, Dial America, Donor Care Center, Donor Services Group, Harris Direct, Horizon Marketing, InfoCision, Insight Teleservices, MDS, and TeleFund. Like all non-sales calls, these are exempt from federal and state no-call registries, even though the call centers executing the recurring campaigns are very much for-profit and pocket most of what is collected. At times the ''charity'' client is itself a closet profit enterprise, compounding the deception.

As commercial entities, these hired call centers are expected to honor an internal no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and ''the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000.'' They are also covered to a point by other regulations for telepests, so you can complain about abandoned calls, bot calls to mobile phones, and so on.

Because the amounts collected are rather small, these call centers are quite motivated to repeatedly hassle you. The worst of the industry will "reload" a donor multiple times a year, preferring forgetful and easily confused victims. Most if not all such phone farms assume that your no-call order, when given verbally or by keypress, conveniently expires when a client's campaign ends.

In comments from November 2012 and June 2013 linked below, I've discussed simple steps I took to rid myself of a major pain fundraising boiler room by politely rubbing its face in federal laws. You will note that I never rely on verbal cease-communication demands.
