- Angela| 1 replyCalled me and said they needed me to access my computer since my Microsoft software was affected by a file that was eating the software
- ee replies to AngelaYeah, same here. I just told them that I couldn't access the computers because I was not an authorized user so the guy would leave me alone.
- DaFox| 1 replyIt is a scam to get you to pay money for "cleaning" you computer, which is not infected.
They lie saying they are Miscrosoft. The are scammers and hackers.
They lie saying "You computer IP was detected with an infection".... think about it, it takes a court order for an ISP to turn over your contact info to anyone you has "detected your computer IP"
They will ask you to give them remote access to your computer, they will "find" an infection (really they will have uploaded the infection to you at this point, remember you gave them access to your computer), and then want your credit card info to pay for a cleaner (which is worthless malware to begin with). If you don't, then they activate the programs they uploaded to you which then spreads the infection further, opens your computer further to remote access, and plagues you with endless pop-up, security alerts, and then crashes your computer when you try a real cleaner.
Do not give them access or any of your information. Do call you local police and file a report, you can also file a report with the FBI. - DaFox replies to DaFoxAlso see this forum thread about these scammers:

- RonnieTelephone call from "Windows" saying rec'd reports from my computer that I have a virus in my Junk File. They need to access my computer to get rid of virus. When I questioned why the Window's software hadn't alerted me to the virus, it was a "new virus" and I wouldn't be able to delete myself. I needed their assistance. I said I couldn't access my computer at this time but if left phone # I would get back. My daughter googled 1-204-272-8888 to expose their SCAM!
- Caller: "Windows"
- Bob OgdenReceived a call where it was supposedly demonstrated my computer was full of malware etc. My caller sounded Asian and said he was calling from Seattle Washington and was an authorized technician with Micro Soft. The phone number was a Manitoba number, the one above mentioned and when pressed he gave me a number for Suffolk County New York. I told him it did not make sense as I had contacted Microsoft in the past via telephone and had no trouble with a Seattle number. Anyway I wouldn't do business with him. It sounds like from goggling the other numbers they are one step ahead of the police.
- RScJust got a call, to say that my computer was using 96% of Windows and that normal usage was 85%.
He even gave me the computer ID number which I did not verify. He knew my last name, which I also never verified and wanted to know why we were downloading a lot in the past few days. The only thing is the computer has hardly been used for the same time period. He said he was sending a notification and I wanted to know if it was an email and he said no. Feels like the computer nazi's knowing all about my computer; Big Brother is watching. He wanted me to deleted unwelcome files.
The guy had a thick accent but spoke English well. Weird!!!- Caller: 204-272-8888
- Stephsame as RSc. I didn't realize it was a scam till he started pressuring me to get his security protection.
My Mom took the phone and tried talking to him, but got nothing but his apparently phony name (James Anderson) and this phone number before hanging up in frustration.
I hope he calls back, so I can waste an hour of HIS time- Caller: "Windows Microsoft" (a pair of [***])
- CaroThey just called my home with the same urgent mesage, requesting access to my computer. They were receiving error messages from our computor and they urgently needed to resolve the problem
The problem is that my husnad does not speak english well so he asked me to verify this number.
He gave a phony name: Alex.- Caller: ?
- hesssame thing.. 90% corruption blabla bla .. told them i have a mac and they told me the Mac department is out She said her name was Jessica
.. - carolJust got a similar call from a person purporting to be from Microsoft. Told me he was calling from Ottawa. Asked for his phone number and first he gave me 973-200-6677 (that's a new Jersey area code). I asked again - then 204-272-8888. That's when I told him he was full of s**t and not to call my number again...you see, the number he called is a 613 area code, which happens to be in Ottawa!!
Have had probably half a dozen of these calls in the past few weeks. They want you to push the windows symbol button + R - you try that then it comes up "run" - presumably if you type in what they tell you that's when your computer gets really bugged...
Didn't bother to get his name, but he spoke English with a heavy South Asian accent. - Manonsame for me he want to fixe my computer ..... yayayaya his name is Max White easy name for a guy with an accent of what ever nationality be ware
- Asifyeh.. stupid people were threating me that we will block your IP address from internet and you wont be able to use internet. Accent seemed more like he was calling from India.
- Caller: Some Windows Services
- goReceived a similar call today saying their was a problem with my PC's INF folder and need to download software from amyy.com
Reported to be from Windows Support
They gave their info as
AMT Technologies Ottawa 158 McArthur Ave
1-973-200-6677
1-204-272-8888
Contacted HP Support and reported it as it seemed strange
Be Aware - JinnyThis scam is still going on! I received a call just yesterday (October 30, 2012) the guy had a very heavy accent, I strongly believe he's from India. At first he said he was calling from "Microsoft", & then he said he was calling from "Windows Service Center" in Ottawa, I asked what number he was calling from, & sure enough 204-272-8888, I told him twice that I've worked in the Ottawa, & Ontario region, & that there's no way that this area code exists there, & that this is a U.S.A. area code. This guy was very pushy, & persuasive, he almost had me convinced. He was talking in a very panicky voice, so that of course they expect you to panic, & go to your computer to follow their instructions. If anyone is from Canada you can report this to the RCMP The Anti-Fraude Squad @ 1-888-495-8501 , or your local police department. What's even scarier is that I did some investigating of my own, & I found a web-site WWW.MET-TECHNOLOGIES.COM & if you click on "Contact Us" you'll see on the right hand side Corporate Office (Canada) look at the phone number that's provided 204-272-8888, & the address is from Ottawa, there's no way that this "area code " 204 exists in Ottawa. Then if you click on "Home" it says that this company is based in India. For those who say that they keep on calling, just leave your phone off the hook when you go to work, they'll get tired, & frustrated calling your number, & they'll move on to some other poor soul.
