- Nitz| 3 repliesThese a..holes just called a few minutes ago. They left a computerized voice message stating that I owe the IRS money and there will be a lawsuit against me if I don't call 206-317-9545. I tried to get through just to screw with them, but phone kept ringing. The caller ID showed that this is a cell phone in Seattle, WA. i'm sure this scam will be short lived. As soon as some poor soul gives these scumbags their CC or bank account info, they will ditch that phone # only to try again with a new#.
- Caller: IRS scam
- Nanc replies to Nitz| 1 replySomeone pick up when I called. I told them (lie) that I worked for the IRS and that we do not leave phone messages like that. The man that answered said that I talked sexy (smh) then he hung up.
- SICK OF 206-317-9545 SCAM| 2 repliesfake call from IRS- how do I block this number !
- Caller: fake IRS CALL
- Slim replies to SICK OF 206-317-9545 SCAMHave you considered obtaining a call blocking device, app, or phone? Google (or your favorite search engine) IS your friend!
Realize that the Do Not Call list is NOT a call blocker! Here are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls: Click on the Info button, below, to see them (Javascript required)
InfoWant to stop repeated telescam phone calls?
Try these alternatives:
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free phone blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear future calls from that number.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (Disadvantage: if you forget to whitelist somebody, you won't hear their calls, either)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. If you buy things online, you might want to google "phone blocker" to see what devices or apps Amazon or other sites have to offer for landlines or smartphones.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live". Instead, read this:

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or will try some of the suggested methods. - DawnSWe've been getting these messages for weeks. The IRS doesn't sue people, and if they wanted you they wouldn't be leaving messages on your voicemail. I just feel bad for people who don't know this.
Also: Be careful of messages on your computer saying you have a technical problem & you need to call them. They scammed my mom & stole her credit card info.- Caller: "IRS"
- EdithI got a message from this number too, stating that I owe IRS and will be sued. Very big lie
- UlaI have received already 2 calls saying that IRS filed a law suit against me. This is a scam call
- MichaelI got the recording "from IRS" to call 206-317-9545. Shouldn't there be some consequence to the perpetrators of this fraud?
- nicoleJust got a call from this number telling me it is a final notice or the IRS will sue me. Right.
- Michelle| 2 repliesjust received a recorded call from this number warning me (laugh) that the IRS has filed a lawsuit against me. These people are disgusting.
- JustinCase replies to MichelleThey're also helpless without anyone to threaten or trick. Enough people they call don't answer in any way, their disgusting business becomes scarce. Let the phone ring and ruin their day.
- kenni504I got a call from this number, everyone that you talk to is from India. They say they are calling from the IRS, and other than giving you some old info on what you owe, they make threats that they have a warrant out for your address and will see you in court if you do not give then a payment by phone. When I ask then to give me proof of warrant, or monies that I owe, they then stated they will only do that after I make a payment. Are they crazy. They need to be reported, who knows who many people have fallen for this scam.
- Caller: They say IRS
- Call type: Debt collector

- GeorgeLL replies to NancI called and someone with an accent answered. I told them the IRS does not make unsolicited phone calls for any reason and that I was reporting their number to Law Enforcement and then hung up on them.
- Rich in MNI got a recorded voice message from Caller ID "bain br", telling me that I owed the IRS money, and that a suit had been filed against me. They said to call the 206-317-9545 number to get the full details.
My wife made the call and spoke with a Hispanic woman, but could barely understand her, so she asked to speak with a supervisor. The man who came online had an Indian/Pakistani accent, and he told us that we owed the IRS $3520 in back taxes and penalties. My wife asked for his identification, and he said that his name was John Watson and his badge was 323778. When he heard my wife talking to me he said that the charges (including an arrest warrant) were specifically against her, and that she should talk to no one else about them.
I was whispering to my wife that this sounded a bit "hinky", and she shouldn't pay a penny to anyone at the current time. "John Watson" asked my wife how much of the amount she could pay at the present time, and my wife said that she needed further proof that he was actually from the IRS. He said he could call us back from the well-known (?) IRS contact number, 1-800-829-1040. We hung up, and waited a few seconds, and in the meantime did a Google search on 800-829-1040, and read a few of the entries there, including the fact that this number, which is a valid IRS number, is often "spoofed", or displayed as the Caller ID for some other phone number. The phone rang (with a Caller ID of 800-829-1040) and my wife answered, but with no response. She hung up and and waited a few more seconds, and then the phone rang again. The Caller ID was again 800-829-1040, and the man speaking identified himself as John Watson, and sounded like the "John Watson" to whom we had been speaking. My wife said that she was turning him in to the state's Attorney General, and then hung up.
Discrepancies:
1) I did a bit of research on the "bain br" Caller ID, and found it to be Bainbridge Island, Washington. The area code for the phone number that we were told to call (206) is in Washington state. I would have expected the IRS to provide an 800 (or one of the other toll-free variants) telephone number. There are a lot of phone scams coming from the 206 area code.
2) When it comes to dealing with taxpayers via telephone, the IRS, in my experience, provides individuals with a better grasp of the English language than these people exhibited.
3) "John Watson" spoke acceptable English, but sounded authentically East Indian, and would probably not be named "John Watson". He was perfectly willing to give us his name and badge number, but what were we going to do with them?
4) The IRS isn't going to discourage you from talking to someone else about the problem (especially if it's a joint filing arrangement).
5) The IRS isn't going to target one specific person in a joint-filing arrangement. If we file jointly, the amount we owe is also a joint debt.
6) Realize that a specific phone number showing up in the Caller ID field on your phone is NO PROOF that the caller is in fact calling from that number.
7) If you actually owe money to the IRS, they're not going to call up and tell you so. You'll get a nice official-looking document in the mail with all the details of your shortcoming.
8) Do NOT pay money over the phone to someone who says you owe them money. Request a specific accounting of your debts, to be sent to you via U.S. Mail.- Caller: bain br...
- Call type: Debt collector

- Jeanne| 1 replyScum bag M*^#er *&%^#s! preying on people who don't know any better. Special place in hell...
Had the nerve to continue to insist that she (heavy Indian accent) was "Agent Black" from Washington DC (I wonder if Seattle is aware that Bainbridge Island has relocated) and although she agreed that the IRS didn't generally give notice via robocalls still claimed to be part of a "special unit" that was suing me for tax fraud.
