- I'm not an Idiot!| 1 replyI got a call from this number saying they are from a law office. They stated that I owe $$ for a Sprint bill from 2001. I should have gotten a letter 45 days ago, giving me the opportunity to settle this outstanding balance. They also stated that if I don't pay, they know where I work, & would have my wages garnished. They couldn't give me the location I had this service. I told them that I never received a letter. The lady was adamant about settling this debt for a lesser amount. She would need my card number or bank routing number and account number. I told her that 1st, I've never had Sprint service. 2nd, I don't have a job because I am on DISABILITY!!!!!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - CCCalled me asking for someone else that I know. Said one hour to contact them before they proceed with charges

- Just had to laugh...This number called my son's number asking for me, saying "they had court documents to deliver to me and couldn't locate me". They also told him that if I didn't call back, there would be a "court hearing". Upon googling the number, I found this. Sadly, they got my father-in-law for over $600 several months ago, saying my husband had a delinquent payday loan (my husband has never done a payday loan in his life), threatening to take my husband to court and garnish his wages. My husband had to give him the "dad, don't do that" lecture. They are now preying on 18 year olds, along with an 80 year old man. If anyone had "court documents", I am not hard to find since we had not moved in almost 12 years. Reported this number to the links above.
