Got a call from unknown number. An indian guy claimed he was calling from Microsoft and that I had a virus on my computer. He was very insistent that I get on my computer immediately to work with him in removing the virus. He identified himself as Martin and provided this number 212-796-4064 as his call back number.
I also received a call from this guy. He said that I could sign up for help at $80 a month. I think that he works with other people who work customer service at banks accross the country. How unfair is this! They want your ss#'s. God only knows what their plans are for your financial situation.
Just like "carfeul person" I too received teh same exact call from and indian guy and gave the 212-796-4064 number to me too, he said his name was Mr. Johnson though and wouldn't give me his first name but gave me an employee number. As he told me that I had a trojan virus - he proceeded to tell me I had an xp OS, and that I used a verizon internet connection and that my computer was at least a year old, I told him that was all correct even though none of it is accurate. he wanted me to go wo www.supportonclick.com - I said I did but I didn't. While I truthfully have no proof, I have to believe this is some sort of scam to get personal information off of my computer - or to somehow infect my computer so I would need to "buy" his service or something to remove it. I don't see how this guy and his call can be legit.
Just had a similar experience - caller ID blocked - claimed to be from Microsoft saying that I had a Trojan virus on an XP computer with a Verizon internet account. Extremely persistent - even called back. Also offered a second number to call - 212-796-0581 in addition to 212-796-4064. Name given was Keith Watson. -- Where are they getting their list of people to call. It seems like the people most likely to know both your Internet provider and your operating system would likely be your Internet service provider. Hmmm... Has somebody gotten illegal access to a Verizon customer list?
Just got a call from this same number. Said I had error messages from Microsoft and he needed to fix. I asked for his number which he gave as 212-796-4064. I asked him why he was calling from NY not calling from Washington State--since that is where Microsoft is located. He got flustered and then hung up. Same Indian accented guy called my neighbor on Tuesday.
July 11th 08. Got a call from same Indian man who stated that he was calling from an affiliation of microsoft and that i had a trojan virus on my computer, he was extremely persistent that I followed his instructions as the virus would crash my computer. He asked me to go to "run" and type in supportonclick.com , then to sign up, the page was asking for my personal info.(name, address, tel.# ect). i told him I was concerned as I did not contact microsoft regarding any problems and I would call him back. He gave me 2 callback #s 212-796-4064 and 212-796-0581 , and his name is GARY, but stated that he would callback in 15 minutes. I called both #s and none worked. 15 minutes later "GARY the scammer" called back and I cursed him out. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS INDIAN GUY. I pro
The Indian guy called me, claiming to be from Microsoft. He said I had spy-ware embedded in cookies and Micosoft technician would help me if I logged on to spotonclick. He was persistent and insistent that I should follow his instructions and being a computer novice I was taken in ,at first by the Microsoft name. However I was suspicious that he didn't want me to log on to Microsoft. When he asked me for £45 I went balistic. He didn't get any details or the money but I feel an idiot for not recognising the phone call for what it was
I too have just been taken in by indian guy who is using the name Justin. however, I have not given any details or passwords> i only hope that I haven't set my self up for a computer disaster!!!!
I just got the same call. His persistence raised red flags. Not only that, but the symptoms he claimed I was suffering from (slow Internet, pop ups) weren't true. I saw this site and told him no thanks.
Do not fall for this scam. I was carefull enough to get away. After a few questions I said to them I want to verify their statements and company. They have given me a number to call 02 10147593 and ask to speak to a Mr. Paul. Stay clear.
Just got a call from and Indian man - same as all the above - very insistent that I had a Trojan virus on my computer, that he was with Microsoft, that it was infecting my files. Gave me incorrect info about my computer which I didn't correct. Told him that was rubbish - no problems on my computer, but I called the 212 number to check up. Another Indian who admitted they weren't actually Microsoft but were supportonclick, and get information on customers from dealers. He tried to put me through to the Sales Dept. Told him never to call me again. Has anyone notified Microsoft?
same as above. live in NJ. Received a call from Bryan with an accent. He was desperate to send me to supportonclick.com. He asked for my wife, different last name. She is not registered anywhere with the computer. He claimed he was affiliated with Microsoft, and that they had gathered information that indicated a virus. He could even name it "trojan horse virus." I laughed at him and said that was a category, not an actual virus. A few weeks ago, my wife gave out her yahoo id and password along with her name and phone number to a scam email supposedly from Yahoo Mail support. I have reported the whole thing to Yahoo.
Call from Indian who assured me I'd been infected with a virus and I should log onto www.supportonclick.co.uk. Gave me his UK number as 01274900834. When I told him I was registered with Telephone Preference Service and he shouldn't be calling me he was completely unaware of their existence. I strung him along for 15 minutes then got bored. There should be some way of shutting down parasites like this.
Told me he'd been asked to call from my ISP's support dept because I had problems on my PC. Suspecting something fishy: Me: Who's my ISP then? Guy: Either Virgin, Sky or BT Me: Well, which is it?
He couldn't tell me, so I got into a discussion about how I was software developer and if I had a problem with my PC I think I'd know about it.
Whenever I asked him a question he couldn't answer he just went back to the original statement that he was calling from the ISP's support dept.
The thing to do with any of these things is just to keep asking them questions - "What do you mean?" is a great one to ask about five times if you've got the time!
That is ok for you to say "what a giggle". You probably know a bit about computers, but there are lots of people out there who know nothing about them and only know how to use them. If you told them the internet is housed in a space station orbiting the moon via a radio link to Washington they would not know anything different! There are people out there who are elderly and who have had computers bought for them to keep in touch, and their knowledge is very limited. Also those who are new to computing. These are the people these bastards prey on!
