    Telemaggoter Call: June 29, 2015

    This operation attempted to call here and somehow or another, the call was magically blocked.  It now makes be wonder if some type of sorcery was placed on the phone line. I guess I am fine as long as it doesn't manage to block me from walking into my own home.
    Obviously this is far from true, but what is true is that I will continue to find humor in these telemaggoters and their lame attempts in getting somebody here to answer.

    >> Really does this 'DO NOT CALL," thing work   <<

    Yes, it really does work!

    The Do Not Call Registry is not a magic switch attached to your phone line, that will block calls.  It is NOT a call blocking service.

    The DNC list can help stop calls originating from legitimate, registered telemarketers who have paid to subscribe to the list.
    * Your calls were not from legitimate, registered telemarketers.
    * Therefore, the DNC list cannot stop those calls.

                                                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Still with us?
    Want to learn more?
    Keep reading ...
    The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to telemarketers who registered their businesses with the FCC, and who pay a fee for the list.  The DNC list administration is supported by these fees.
    The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities, and companies with preexisting business relationships, as well as debt collectors and certain nonprofit organizations, but these organizations usually have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
    The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those telescum are not registered, do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
    It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.  Just think ... if there were no DNC, you would be receiving incessant calls from BOTH legitimate and spamming telemarketers!
    If a caller does not leave a message, the call is NOT a violation of the DNC rules!
    The DNC itself has no enforcement authority - they forward complaints to the appropriate agency.
    There is no significant drain on your tax dollar because the DNC is funded by the fees they charge registrants.
    Click on this link, to read the Congressional Research summary of "Telemarketing Regulation: National and State Do Not Call Registries".
    https://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R43684.pdf
    The following page states the FCC's DNC Registry applies to both intrastate and interstate telemarketing calls:
    https://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/telemarketing
    However, to confuse things, this page states the DNC Registry applies only to interstate telemarketing calls:
    https://www.donotcall.gov/faq/faqbusiness.aspx#AnlsubPeriod
    Remember, the FCC's Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers.   To report spammers and scammers, visit the FTC site, at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
    Read the above sentence again.
    If you want to report a specific scam to the appropriate government site,
    Look here first:
    If the reporting site you wanted is not in the above list, try this one:
    http://phonehelp.2truth.com/complaint_sites.html
    If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense.  Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites.
    I got a call on Canada Day also. I was "14th" in line. I waited about five minutes as I became "10th" in line, etc. Amazing how fast they dealt with "14" calls, or how fast people hung up, perhaps. A week or two ago I got the same call and talked to somebody. He said he was "Visa Company Head Office." I asked where that was (it is Ontario). He hesitated. I suggested it was Ontario. He agreed. I asked why he was calling. He said to lower my interest rate. I said I already have very low rates and am satisfied. He kept pressing. I asked how he got my name and number. He would not answer. I said, "Did you know that Canada's anti-spam law that came into effect almost a year ago on July 2 makes unsolicited electronic selling against the law and that you can be sued for up to $10,000,000 per offense?" He hung up. But they called again today. Has anyone utilized the new anti-spam law against these people? It would be more lucrative than lowering your interest rate.
    Same caller, yet a different phone number, constantly calling for months.  That is until yesterday :)  I called back, pressed 1 and got my phone number removed from the caller's list.  I was reluctant at first to do this but I'm glad I did because after 48 business hours the calls in fact stopped.
    The do not call list is only valid in Canada .. as these calls originate outside of Canada (Illinois) there is nothing the government will do about them .. Just a pain in the butt and that is why caller display is worthwhile  ... If you don't know who's don't answer .. they are auto-dialed (block of numbers) so having an unlisted doesn't mean anything .. the number is still out there and they call everyone .. they don't know who they are calling .. just a bunch of zeroes!!!
    The call comes up Info Survey. 90% of the time it is a person on the other end. Once in a while it's automated.  We receive these calls two or three times in a day. It talks about credit card debt, and my husband actually told them to stop calling here.  We still receive them and would like it stopped completely!
