- Kellythese people need to stop effing calling me
- Caller: never said
- EricSounds like a typical fraud collections call--said it's the last time they'll try to reach me, and I have just a few days to rectify some matter before they process my case and serve me papers. But they never identified who the speaker was, what company they were from, what the "matter" in question was, never even used my name; caller ID said only "private name, private number." Obvious fraud.
- Caller: Did not say
- Call type: Debt collector
- BrianThey keep calling my friends regarding some debt I owe.
- Resident47"Pay now or get served" is part of the normal roster of false threats from debt collection frauds. It's plausible and legal coming on paper from a real lawyer with the authority and the intent to sue, and there would be reasonable time to respond. Collection thugs lack both authority and intent, and often proof of claim, making their threat illegal.

- Slim replies to Christian PostierModern technology has given telespammers the tools to call you.
Lawbreaking telescammers ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocking device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information. There are available apps (some free) for smart phones, and services and devices for landlines. Remember, the Do Not Call List is NOT a call blocker!
If you cannot use or afford such a tool, then click on the "Info" button, below, for alternate options (Javascript Required):Info• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service. Telespammers usually hang up after 3 or 4 rings.
• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number, and make it more valuable to more spam groups! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete. If the incoming call was important, they would have left a message!
• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group. (This also works for smartphones). The spammer will usually hang up before the phone goes to voicemail.
• Another option, for cell phones: Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers. That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact! You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number! (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers).
If you want to report potential fraudulent or scam calls, here are two pages of links to (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report those scams, or learn more about them.

- kThese people keep calling my number for someone else and leaving threats to take to court if no call back by Wednesday at 6pm. I called them at 218-206-8547 and informed them to stop calling my number I am not the person they are looking for. Also, I asked you they are. They replied a Debt recovery service, but wouldn't give company name. I said so you are a collection company. They told me that it pertains to the person we are looking for so they would not discuss with me any information about them. I told them to stop calling me! and I was assured they would. We will see.

- ticketoffatthisThey call and threatened if you don't return a call within 24 hours they will take action. I have no outstanding bills or collections. It a bunch of scammers. Do NOT answer their phone calls. Get a lawyer and sue them. FTC complaints and FCC complaints do nothing.
- Call type: Debt collector
- I warned them to never call againI called these people back with the number posted along with filed FCC and FTC complaints. This company said it would not call again, but still has been doing so. Its harassment, pure and simple. Companies like this are called "zombie debt collectors." If your name is close or similar to someone they are seeking you will be bothered. Even with a cease and desist letter does not work. You have rights to file civil actions against such criminals. These companies typically threaten with some kind of bogus action. They used to call my mother, now deceased and said they were coming with the sheriff's deputy. I would always respond by saying I am waiting, they never show. That was pure elder abuse. They also have looked into bills which I have fully paid off, no idea why. At one point they asked if I knew where a person lived at that I had no idea was, and they told me i was lying. Its getting to the point where I am seeking legal help to stop all of this madness. These scammers need to be dealt with. In the mean time I have called my telephone company and in the process of getting my phone line monitored. I am also looking into getting one of those call blocking devices. I learned no matter what they do, its not worth getting worked up about. Just make complaints and get legal help. I have asked people who I know what they did and they just got lawyers and sued them. That seems to be the answer.

- jjThese people use used a robotic message, using my name ( thought this was illegal) they did not say what company it was,, just to call by 6PM or they will process. I have since blocked the number, still don't know who they are.

- TLVoice message said it's the last time they'll try to reach me, and I have just a few days to rectify some matter before they process my case and serve me papers. Threatening voice tone added the effect of the message. Of course, no mention of my name or the company name on the message. Only to call back by 6pm at 218-206-8547... FRAUD! Any legitimate company would be sending statement or letter to you. Blocking them, now.

Most simultaneously, it starts out wit a computer generated message stating my name and then anothe voice comes on saying I have until 6pm tonight to take action. It is a scam. - you can't fool meAnd here we go with yet ANOTHER voicemail message from these idiots telling me they are going forward with my "case." So far, 5 straight days of these calls from 2 or 3 different phone numbers with no end in sight. Unbelievable that they have so much of their time to waste on someone who OBVIOUSLY knows they are scammers! Hey, boneheads....you say the sheriff is coming to get me if I (or my "counsel"...there's a laugh!) fail to contact you by 6 p.m.? I'm a personal friend of the sheriff in my town, so BRING IT!! I'm sure he would be thrilled to meet himself !! ;)

- LaughingThe scammers are out in force. Fourth different scam today. Same as all the others said above. Claims are about as real as the tooth fairy. Boiler room with a number probably not even in the country...these calls are more than just annoying. They are criminal.
