For a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

Hmmm, 222-225-6447. Mauritania, Africa. I have multiple incoming texts from this number. They only show up on the bill. That's just where it starts. I was also almost car-jacked three weeks ago by a thug who told me he "has a concealed carry permit." When I tried to call 911 my phone inexplicably died. Since then all my photos and texts for the last 6 months were erased, while some older, previously erased messages re-appeared. I'm going to try not to speculate here, but those are the facts.

I think some of us were alarmed to see texts as coming from Mauritania on our T-Mobile bill.

After doing some research, I've concluded that these are legitimate texts that came from Google Verification. This is part of their 2-step Authentication process to verify your identity before letting you log into your account i.e. they will send a code (the 2nd step) to your phone via text SMS which you can then use to verify your identity.

In the text messaging app on my Samsung phone, these texts were listed as coming from 256447 while on my T-Mobile bill, these texts were listed as coming from the number of (222) 225-6447 which translates to the country origin of Mauritania. I highly doubt that Google put their text servers in Mauritania and so, I'm more inclined to think that T-Mobile did a poor job of figuring out where the text came from. Go ahead and call T-Mobile's customer support and see if they have any clue what's going on. They probably don't.

Anyway... chill out if you're getting text from this number. In my case, these were legitimate texts that came from Google Verification.

So is it solely a verification code used to log into your account or a Google texting app used to possibly hide recorded text messages??
