Reporting International Scams

If you have access to a telephone you have probably been called about your computer giving off signals requiring immediate attention.  How about considering solar energy?  You have been referred for a (pick one) back brace, pain cream or medic alert.  A lot of times these calls are coming from overseas out of the reach of our law enforcement.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ve heard us say repeatedly to report scams to the FTC. If you report scams to us, we can bring the kinds of cases that shut down the scammers.

But there’s another place to report international scams, too: econsumer.gov. Maybe you’ve done business with an overseas company that hasn’t lived up to its end of the deal. Perhaps you got “winning” lottery notices from another country, or got asked to send money overseas to secure your international job. If you’ve spotted a scam that crosses international borders, you can file a report at econsumer.gov.

The site is run by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN), and is a partnership of 34 consumer protection agencies around the world. Starting today, an updated version of the site is available – it’s mobile-friendly, has a user-friendly complaint form, and you can get consumer information and file complaints in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Spanish, and Turkish.

Whether you use a smart phone, tablet or other mobile device, your complaints to econsumer.gov help consumer protection agencies around the globe – including the FTC – spot trends, conduct investigations, bring cases and prevent international scams. You also can learn practical steps to help combat fraud and get news from ICPEN members, including case announcements

Its now monday, since friday I have been called over 25 times by a health insurance company by multiple numbers from as many states. Always asking for Melinda, which is not me. I have been polite, irate, sobbing, and comical with said callers. Each time they stay on the line long enough to hear me out i ask them to place me on their DNC list. Thats a joke. I wonder how long this is going to continue?

And that has to do with international scams and reporting them in what way?

Stop answering the phone for numbers you do not recognize, all you have done is let them know they have a live number to call. And please post under the numbers that call you, this post truly does not belong here in this thread as its totally off topic.

Please provide the 'SPOOFED' number they are calling from.

Hey we will get right on that, right after we have our Thanksgiving turkey.  but then we might be too tired because turkey makes you sleepy.  But maybe we can do it Friday.  No wait, that is Black Friday and we will all be out shopping for bargains all day.  Saturday and Sunday are out, because nothing is open, and we have to watch the football games.  Then of course we have to work Monday thru Friday and we are then faced with the Sat./Sun. thing.  Looks like the earliest we might be able to get to it is next year.  Maybe we can make it a New Year's resolution, you know how everyone keeps them right?

Received a call from "David Grey" with a thick accent and garbled message. He is indicating there is an issue with the US Treasury and that there will be action taken against me with the Magistrate Judge. Yeah, Uh, No....! Avoid this one like the plague, it is obviously a scam! Number David is calling from is: 518-861-9598
