I've received the same automated call twice.  I returned the call the first time, and the person who answered knew my name, I asked him what was going on, and he started saying that I lived at some other address in another city.  I said that's not my address and he hung up.

Got 2 calls today from 229-229-0431, 12/16/15.The IRS doesn't do robo calls. They send letters if there is a problem most of the time. Sometimes they call if someone is behind on their taxes by 2 or 3 years but most of the time it's with letters.

First I got a voice mail. Voice sounded automated & said the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me. Told me to call department 229 then gave phone number to call 229-229-0431. I checked the envelope info on my voice mail & it said I was called by slightly different number:  229-299-0431.  Later answered a second call from this number. Same message, automated voice. Sounds like a scam.

Obviously a scam. Have received several robo calls from this number.
IRS does not make unsolicited calls, texts or emails. All correspondence is by US mail. Don't fall for this.

total scam re IRS. Agree, IRS would send you a letter and not an auto-call. call back # they leave is wrong too, first clue (it says 229-2229-0431 but it does not work, is 229-299-0431.) they sound indian. said they are located at Condation St (not Constitution) in D.C. Threaten to cancel my drivers license, bank accounts, credit cards and come to my place of business and arrest me if I do not make payment. got mad at me and yelled 'what the IRS wants to know is was this intentional or a mistake?" then hung up on me. I called back to see what else they had to say since I could hardly understand first guy. Listened to second guy, he knew my former address! Anyway, I finally told him i knew it was a scam and I was reporting them.
I sure hope no one falls fotr this and pays them, they were telling me it was over $6500.00! and they'd walk with bank account or credit card info if anyone pays via phone.

This is a SCAM.  The IRS does not do robo calls.  They use registered mail.  Do Not Fall For This.  Do NOT call them back.  Just hang up.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
