I received a call from a man with an  Indian accent  name John Vote saying he was from YouTube (or represented them, not sure he was talking too fast and was difficult to understand) and wanted me to get to my computer so that he could tell me how to remove unwanted virus files from my computer that YouTube sent to my computer.

On December 12, 2011, I got a call from this number at 9:58PM. A young woman with an Indian accent and a sense of urgency in her voice told me my computer was about to crash. It was corrupted with certain viruses which had to be immediately addressed. I told her that's impossible because I have Norton anti-virus security which she immediately added that the security was by passed by the viruses. She then took me into the internal workings of my computer because she wanted to prove that I'm no longer under the computers warranty and my C drive is damaged. I asked her how she knows this about my computer and she said when I bought the computer in 2006, the warranty was registered with them, with an ID of the system and it gives them internal error reports. She then scammed me into signing up for an "annual unlimited plan, tax free, for $189.00" to correct the problem by adding additional software on the computer, along with an added $59.00 for a "PC Tune Up". After paying with a credit card, she then told me a support representative, known as senior technician Dave, will connect to my computer, using my help and fix any problems. They told me that he "will not touch any personal documents and will clear only those virus infected files which will be automatically detected during the process". Since it was past 11:00PM, they told me to go to bed, just leave the computer on and they would turn it off. At 1:00AM I awoke to see the computer light still on and went to check, seeing a game sight on the screen and the so called technician playing a game. He asked if I was there but I didn't answer; not wanting to get involved since I had to get up for work in a few hours. For the next couple of weeks, everytime I used my computer, it was working so slow, with endless pop-ups and alerts, and restarts. I called their number for help and each time they would have a technician log in to try to fix it, with me sometimes working with him for 5-6 hours. On January 18, 2012, I decided to check out the website they gave me for customer support: customersupport@shinesolutions.in and saw that the domain had expired. For the next couple of months, I had a rash of computer alerts and phone calls from many hackers claiming serious problems with my computer. We called to alert our credit card company who said  they would monitor all transactions on the card and also suggested a new card be issued. Today, May 30th, I get a call from this very same number telling me that the company has dissolved and my money is going to be refunded, asking how much was I owed? I said I paid $248.00 and he said I would be getting a refund of $399.00, the extra money was added on as a penality since the company didn't provide the 1 year service they promised. The catch is I have to register with Western Union online, with his help before I can get it. I told him I couldn't do it right away, the way he was anxious to do it. Instead I said to call me in 2 days and we'd work on it. If anything, I've gotten a little wiser and much more cautious since this whole debacle. Only this time I can't help feeling that his new approach is to appeal to any greed and gullibility I still might have left.

Just got a call from this number about 20 minutes ago... it was very similar to the other calls described here, except this guy was claiming he worked for Windows computer maintenance department.  He talked very fast and was going on about my computer being infected.  When I told him I had antivirus, he was saying that antivirus couldn't detect my computer issues.  I told him the call was very suspicious and I didn't feel comfortable giving him any of my information.  He had my first and last name, as well as my old address (not sure how he got any of that).  I asked him for his phone number, and he told me to make sure to call him back right away because it was very urgent, and my computer was 98% infected.  Total bullsh*t.  Thankfully I didn't fall for it.

SCAM CALL
Had a similar experience to Vic above with an Indian woman saying she was from Miami and asked me to do the run cmd for assoc (associated files) and look for CLS ID. I finally got her to give me a number and called it while she was still trying to "help" me on the phone.  East Indian man answered, also from same "company" in Miami. I  managed to keep the woman on the phone from calling anyone else for 19 minutes before she swore at me at the end...after I told her to take my name off the list.

I actually received a call from 718-758-9741. Same MO as what Vic (previous message) said, but when I insisted that I couldn't do it right at that moment and that I wanted a number to call him back on, he gave me this one (307-529-0607).  Crazy guy.  I just told him I'd take my chance about my computer crashing.  Can you imagine those who don't think to google the number and just give out their info?  Honest, trusting people beware!  What a sad thing.

just received same call from star tech support,gave 307-529-0607 as call back #. their not that smart, but i could see older people falling for it. hope someone burns these guys.

Same number but said they were from PC Solutions....she was quite huffy when I started asking her questions..but said the Microsoft, let's go into your computer bit.  I ask for number.

I replied to a craigslist add for a cleaning job... this is the reply I got!  The hook is in para3.

just got the same email with same return number but from a Francis Henworth. i google the name and this lady or man is dead. whoever these people thats doing this are nothing but scammers,

I got an email from a "francis henworth" too and it was as a personal assistant position. It is most definitly a scam do not give him any of your info his number is a magic jack number which means its not an actual listed or locatable number it changes with every phone call made...he is a scammer and all his ads on craigslist look the same as what (kev) said above the number hes currently using is 307 529 1059 saying hes in aulstralia hes [***] its an indian dude rippin innocent ppl off...be careful!

What if you write back the email with all he asked above in te email? Should I have to do something to protect my ID? I have him name and address and email and phone number. Please somebody suggest me.

Put fraud alerts on all your bank accounts and also with the three credit agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion).

I got this exact same email when I applied for a job on craigs list in my area. I was applying for a part time Office assist job at a glass company.  What was really crazy is they were asking me for info I didnt want to give them after a read the email from them but then realized every bit of it was on the Resume I had attached to them when applying for the job.  so now it worries me they have that info they wanted. I reported it to Craigs list as a scam.

Jan I am concerned about the same thing..the info already contained in my resume. I also replied to an office assistant ad and got nearly the same email reply Kev mentioned above. Same number but his name was Dan Peter. I was worried as soon as I read the reply. Feeling very vulnerable now!

Its the same person posting fake ads  just using different names.  *craigslist the same as the other stories I thought it was a job post .glad I looked here first

i got the same email and responded the same way, have you found a way to resoive this issue? to night i got a cashiers check with no return address and a letter stating to contact the number or email for further instructions. shady as hell. im going to initially respond and tell this person who ever they are i will not be doing anything for them and the check will be shredded and not to contact me or i will take leagal action. any more suggestions?

Take the check and envelope it came in to the US Postal Service - they're the ones you need to report postal fraud/scams to.
