I just got a call from this # about 10 min. ago. They said we were being sued by the I.R.S and to call back ASAP. They had been trying to reach us. We are so not responding. We know we are not in any trouble with IRS or have back taxes.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

At 0704 Wed 16 Dec 2015 in Los Angeles, I received a call from this Chicago number.

A mechanical, synthesized female voice (not a recording of a live voice) left this message:  "Internal Revenue Services. The reason of [sic] this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number, (312) 985-5367. I repeat 312-985-5367. Thank you."

I do not answer calls from unknown numbers. I let my transcription system record and transcribe them. My anonymous robot calls such numbers back, asks the name of the business, and then silently records the response until it hangs up. In this case, that produced an utterly reprehensible, sixty-two-second, calmly worded, reiterative invitation that began (perhaps in response to my robot's silence after it asked the name of the business and the polite asian-sounding voice had replied with "IRS Services") with "we're here to f**k you. Would you like me to f**k you?" — and on and on for more than a minute of elaborate variations upon both invitations it threats involving that very same expletive, with the sounds of a busy telemarketing boiler room in the background.

They have been calling several times per day and I haven't answered. They never leave a voicemail.  Today, I swiped my phone the wrong way and got the message that it was the IRS filing a law suit against me.

Like many others have said, just got this call, with a voicemail stating that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me.  If I had the time and energy I would so call back and completely f*ck with these low-life scammers.  I weep for them if they try to call again.

A recorded message from this number was left on my cell phone...which is odd because I avoid giving my cell number to pretty much everyone except family. Said the IRS was filing a law suit against me and to call back immediately to discuss this case.  I hit re-dial more out of curiosity than anything and there was no answer.  Tried it twice.  Just called again and a man with an Indian accent answered, "Thank you for calling the IRS.  How can I help you?"  HAH.  Having had recent dealings with the IRS, I know this is NOT how their phone system works.  There's a litany of voice prompts that you would have to go through and when you do reach a live person, they give you their name and badge number.
