They called not long after I got a call from a different number 317-200-3261.  They both are scams.

Called my cell, which they are not supposed to do. Didn't answer, no VM left by them. CID says WA state.

They also called a couple of minutes ago. It rang twice, and then they hung up. Didn't answer, and they didn't leave a voicemail.

That #  is registered  to the  I.R.S. It is some kind of pre-audit data base.

Whoever "Bob" is above I believe is part of the scam, just an example of how these people operate. Don't take the call and put it on your do not call list. If the IRS is trying to contact you it will not be by some odd phone number from Washington State, they will send you mail through the postal service. There is not such thing as a "Pre-audit data base" from the IRS.

Modern technology has given telespammers the tools to call you.
Lawbreaking telescammers ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.

Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocking device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.

Google "call blocker" for more information.  There are available apps (some free) for smart phones, and services and devices for landlines.

If you cannot use or afford such a tool, then:

• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service.  Telespammers usually hang up after 3 or 4 rings.

• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number, and make it more valuable to more spam groups!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete. If the incoming call was important, they would have left a message!

• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group. (This also works for smartphones).  The spammer will usually hang up before the phone goes to voicemail.

• Another option, for cell phones:  Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT.  Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers.  That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact!  You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number!  (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers).

Called my cell yesterday and today.  No voice-mail. If it's a scam, I figure calling to have my number removed may just verify the computer generated number they've called is active and give them more reason to continue calling.  I contacted my states Attorney Generals office regarding several other calls (since I'm on the do not call registry); they said there's really not much that can be done. Scammers have figured out how to have anything they want show up on the caller ID or they change their numbers by the time it's reported.

Home Security.  Looking for an "advertiser home" in my area.  Would I be interested in a free wireless home security system in exchange for placing a "small sign" in my yard.  Well no I wouldn't.  Those systems can be hacked if the right person knew to look for those "small signs".  Geeze. No decent home security company will make cold calls.

This caller has been calling me 2x a day for several weeks. I just ignore the calls just like all the other unwanted calls I get everyday. They will eventually stop.

Called in the middle of the day, no one on the other line.

The IRS will never call you. It's a well known scam.

I made the mistake and answered.  They tried to talk me into getting a "free" security system for my home.  I told the person at least 20 times the word no.  Finally they said thank you and hung up.  We will see if another of their telemarketing people call this house again.  Name on called ID RS Security.
