This number conitues to call after been told this the wrong. Also, been  told that it belongs to City of Ruidoso Downs.

I received two calls from a person that states his name as Christopher Perry an investigator for Briarhill, Tomlin and associates. I google that name and nothing shows up anywhere. I called the number back and I get a recording every time. This person says that I will be in default on a judgement if they don't hear from me. Any suggestions?

I suggest you block the calls.

Its a scam, and its all over this board.  The scammer invents a fake criminal charge and threatens to have you arrested.  You can avoid being arrested by paying a large fine, right this minute, by giving the caller your credit card or bank account number.  Or he'll want the money set by Western Union or Green Dot.

If you have real charges pending the paperwork will be delivered by someone official.  If you don't get paperwork you aren't in trouble.  Don't send this scammer a dime.

Thanks, I figured it was a scam because I am a law abiding citizen and have never been in trouble with the law.

Sounds like a debt scamming operation.  Ignore and block.

We got that same exact call from the same exact guy. He's even been calling my mother in law telling her that he has papers ready to serve us on a civil matter. We haven't lived in New Mexico in years.

You are receiving calls from what is referred to as a Zombie Debt / Dead Debt / Non-Existent Debt Collector. They purchase a database of consumer information. This database's consumer information is collected so if you have;
- applied for an online loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for a payday loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for a title loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for debt consolidation online (regardless if you went through with it)
- paid off any or all of the above.
- a company you were doing business with (insurance, credit, etc.) had their database hacked into.
If so there's an awful strong possibility your name is in the database that the Zombie Debt Collector currently has in their possession and are going down the list using any info they have to sound legit.

It does not matter if you tell these callers that you;
- never took out a loan.
- paid the loans off and have proof.
- filed and or received a partial or full bankruptcy discharge.
They will ask for more info (your social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, etc.), anything that will assist with adding to the database and sell it. They will ask for proof. They might even tell you that the money supposedly owed can not be covered under any US Bankruptcy laws / court decision. (FALSE)

Always remember..
- Legitimate companies DO NOT hesitate to state their company name immediately when calling, whether it's leaving a message or you answered the phone.
- Legitimate companies DO NOT spoof a phone number (deliberately falsifying a telephone number and/or name relayed as the Caller ID information to disguise the identity of the calling party.)
- Legitimate companies DO NOT call posing as a "process server" or "legal locator" with threats of being prosecuted, served papers, or going to court. (Note: Process servers don't call you ahead of time, leave a different number to call back while giving you a last chance to "pay up". Process servers show up and serve.)
- Legitimate debt collection companies MUST send you a letter by United States Postal Service postmarked 5 days from initial contact. That letter should clearly list their company letterhead and information and the original lender of any loan with the accurate dates, the account (bank or credit union) for which it was deposited and the contact information of the original lender.
- NEVER give your full or partial social security number, date of birth, full name, etc should they ask this info for "verification" that it is you they are speaking to. *This is referred to as "phishing". It's an easy way to have your identity stolen.
- Should you accidentally answer a call from any Zombie Debt Collector or Debt scammer, make sure to Write down the time, date, phone number(s), person calling, company name, conversation and any details of the call.

Also, always read the previous posts on any number thread such as this. It will usually not only tell the story, but show how long it has been going on as well as the experiences of those called before you.

They clearly are calling from several numbers in several different states. They give the name and a reference number or you can hold to speak to someone. They don't provide info on the supposed debt, provide their name, nor do they give any information about the actual reasons they are calling. Expect the say they will be filing a judgement against you if you don't pay X amount today. They harass even my grandmother. WTF?
Report and Block.
Make sure to warn your family members also.

I have been receiving the same calls but the number is (408) 359-6291 and I knew it was a scam, so I ignored it because I know how these scammers work, but what really frustrated me was that he called my daughter.  I did try calling the number back several times since last night and of course the number is not set up to take messages.  So, I have blocked the number and will tell my daughter as well.

They say there an investigator and want you to contact there legal department.  Tracy Bradshaw and Associates, the investigator is Stanley Thomas.  Calls everyday.

This person contacted me yesterday and left a message with a case number.  Call came from 505-395-7460, but Mr. Stanley Thomas did not leave a return phone number.  I have attempted to contact 505-395-7460 nothing goes through.  Is this seriously a fraud situation?
