    Alex Newman says with Texas Attorney General Office.  A case against me.  I tried to get him to give me the case number said he didn't have it as he was just a paralegal, but that the attorney he worked for would.  Transferred me.... but came back saying that the attorney was not available.  Brandon Gabriel.  Funny on the Ripoff Report - there is a whole article about him with the same scam in California.  I did report this to the true Texas Attorney General's Office.  Sick and tired of these phone calls.

    I am furious about the entire affair. Some people have the nerve of a brass monkey!

    I listed this information in several posts on other websites.
    On 4/30/2014, I received a call from 512-410-4962. I was advised to speak to Brandon Gabriel. I received the case number and proceeded to read it back. "Brandon" did not want to speak to me. He did not like my attitude. Like I gave a d!!!!!!#%^^ Later, I called the State Attorney General's office to find out what was going on. I was advised that there is a criminal ring trying to scam people. I received at least 15 calls! This number is a Verizon number. http://www.mycallbot.com/numbers/5124104962 512-410-4962 Central Office: AUSTIN, TX - CELLCO PARTNERSHIP DBA VERIZON WIRELESS - TX I reported the incident to my phone provider. I am going to use the call blocking feature. After activating all features to block the harassing calls, I contacted Verizon about the incident. 1-800-922-0204. It is duly reported!

    Caller stated he was from the Attorney General's office. Said there was a problem with my Social Security number and when I called him out that I knew this was a scam, he put a "lawyer" on the phone who proceeded to tell me he "was the State Attorney General officer" and that if that is the way I'm going to be he will just have me arrested at my job or at home. I proceeded to tell him that I am a police officer and I would absolutely love for him to come and arrest me. He hung up. I reported the number to the real Texas OAG.

    Said that he was Edward Larry Marshall from the Attorney Generals office and that they have a check fraud case against me. He said that if I did not take care of this today, they will send the police on my job to arrest me. I told him that he did not tell me how much money I am suppose to be owing and he told me it was $1,897.00 and  I need to pay it today.  I told him that I did not have that kind of money and he ask me if I can borrow it or can I sell something to get the money. He said that I guess you will be happy to go to jail and I told him no I did not want to go to jail, but I have no access to $2,000.00. He told me well I am going to send the police to my job and I said that I guess he was going to have to. When I started talking the way he did not expect me to he hung the phone up on me.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Me
    I was called twice (within 20 minutes) at work by "Patrick Wilson" who claimed to be a paralegal with the State Attorney General's Office" and was calling with a case against me, but said he did not have any further information because he was only a paralegal.  I would have to contact "Attorney Laury MacDougal" for all the information.  I continually asked what it was in reference to, but was told he didn't have any information and I would have to contact the attorney, but would have to do so right away because he was waiting for my call.  I called back at the same phone number (512-410-4962), and a female answered.  I told her I was told to contact Laury MacDougal, gave her my name, and she pressed a bunch of numbers on the phone and someone claiming to by "Lary MacDougal" answered, asked my name, read me my social and asked if I had a lawyer he could speak with.  I asked him for what, and he asked if I wanted the charges read to me.  I told him I did, and proceeded to tell me that the conversation is being recorded and a sheriff deputy was also listening, so I was not to interrupt him or become hostile because the phone call would end and I would be arrested at my place of employment.  I listened to what he said were the charges which included 2 counts against federal banking regulations and 3 counts of collatoral check fraud.  He told me my activity had been monitored online and that I had asked for and received funds on a federal site.  He proceeded to say that the company is not looking for the money, but instead was looking for legal action and that someone would come to arrest me at work and put me jail for 7 years unless I took care of the debt right then.  I told him I'd be happy to pay the debt they claim I have if I get something in writing.  He said that the only thing in writing he could get me was a warrant along with a police officer to come arrest me.  I told him that was fine, and he hung up.

    same thing happen to me the caller continue to call excessively and wouldn't stop. He told me that it was a problem under my social security number and that , I got to talk to a paralegal because, I'm getting arrested today. When I ask him what it was for he couldn't tell me and then the paralegal got on the phone and said something then hung up. So , that's when I figure it had to be a scam knowing that, I haven't done anything. I looked this number up on the internet and found out i'm not the only victim.
