- JoshCalled twice so far. Both times the person (somewhat confusedly) says "Hello? Hellllllo?" but never leaves an actual message. As I don't answer the phone of people I don't know and they didn't leave a message, I don't know what they actually wanted. I sounds like from the others that they are potential scammers anyhow.
- ChrisI got an automated message on my voicemail telling them to call back a 1-800 number for an important business matter with American express. I do have an American express card. I was weary about it, so instead of calling back that number, I called the number on the back of my card. It was legit, there was an issue with my last payment.
- Caller: American Express
- susan zeegot a message on the answering machine saying I needed to call AMEX at 1-800-824-9289 regarding suspicious charges on my AMEX card. BUT I HAVE NO AMEX CARD!
When I called, they said they must have made a mistake and to disregard the call. - Broke!623-492-6031 - American Express Account Management
It's legit. I was past due on my payment, they were calling a lot, finally after I made an online payment, they called that day so I bravely answered...lol
He stopped mid-sentence & saw I made a payment. He apologized for calling & haven't called since.
Every time you call your credit card company, you're required to enter your card #, that's how they pull up your account information, but if it's suspicious then don't.- Caller: American Express
- Call type: Debt collector
- CamThey've been calling daily. Only static on line.
- RThese guys seriously need to get a life.
- ..called and hung up
- John replies to This number is legit!| 1 replyNice try, but for all we know you're part of the scam yourself! Do you have any proof that this is a legit number?
- TexasReceived the automated call from 623-492-6031 and called back the number listed, 888-819-2135. Entered my amex # and waited for an operator. My account had become past due, and I was able to work out a payment plan and it is now showing on my online amex account information. This is a legitimate department of amex calling. Unlike the deplorable treatment I received from Chase bank, I was extremely happy that amex was willing to work with me!
- Caller: Dept of American Express
- Call type: Unwanted
- Damon BochThanks for this valuable resource. These guys are just crooks. I don't have an Amex card & they couldn't "pull my file" via my telephone number. WHen I exposed the guy he quickly apologized and hung up.
Please elect McCain so we can bring back the firing squad for these guys!! - Fed-upBeen getting 2 or 3 calls a day from these idiots. A call to the real AE 800 number indicates that the 623 # is NOT a legit AE number, and that they are trolling for acct #s.
I managed to cajole a direct number to a "supervisor".
It is 416-645-7114 in Toronto, Canada. So, that is how they are getting by. Since they aren't in the US, they are obviously exempt from US federal scrutiny.
So, I encouurage everyone to callthat number COLLECT. And if anyone has a dialling bot program, add taht number to the list.- Caller: AE imposter
- happy amex customerI received several missed calls from this number over the course of a week (with no voicemail left), and then finally was around to pick it up. It was a completely legitimate call regarding fraudulent charges on my credit card. I spoke with a live person who did not require any personal information from me. In order to verify that this was a valid call, I went ahead and called the AmEx number on the back of my card and they confirmed this to be true. I'm thankful for the service as otherwise I would have had no idea that my credit card information had been compromised.

- wcgirlBritish accent woman left a message saying it was American Express calling about a VERY important business matter. It is urgent that you call by the end of the day. They have called every other day for a few weeks it seems. I keep letting the machine pick it up because there is nothing wrong going on with our credit card account.
