- Mike| 1 replySurvey Company in Lombard Illinois. I kept saying over her speech "Do not call list" after the 2nd time she said she would take me off.
I've been on the do no call list for many years and as a matter of fact I just checked the other day.Seems maybe I activated myself as I've gottat least 4 calls in the past several days from different numbers. - Slim replies to MikeThe Do Not Call Registry is not a magic switch attached to your phone line, that will block calls. It is NOT a call blocking service.
The DNC list can help stop calls originating from legitimate, registered telemarketers who have paid to subscribe to the list.- Your calls were not from legitimate, registered telemarketers.
- Therefore, the DNC list cannot stop those calls.

Click on the Info link, below (Javascript required)InfoThe DNC list does not automatically block calls. It is NOT a call blocker! Instead, it provides a list of "do not call" phone numbers to telemarketers who registered their businesses with the FCC, and who pay a fee for the list. The DNC list administration is supported by these fees.
The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations, charities, and some companies with preexisting business relationships, as well as debt collectors and certain nonprofit organizations, but these organizations usually have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those telescum are not registered, do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that. Just think ... if there were no DNC, you would be receiving incessant calls from BOTH legitimate and spamming telemarketers!
If a caller does not leave a message, the call is NOT a violation of the DNC rules!
The DNC itself has no enforcement authority - they forward complaints to the appropriate agency.
There is no significant drain on your tax dollar because the DNC is funded by the fees they charge registrants.

Click on this link, to read the Congressional Research summary of "Telemarketing Regulation: National and State Do Not Call Registries".
https://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R43684.pdf
The following page states the FCC's DNC Registry applies to both intrastate and interstate telemarketing calls:
https://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/telemarketing
However, to confuse things, this page states the DNC Registry applies only to interstate telemarketing calls:
https://www.donotcall.gov/faq/faqbusiness.aspx#AnlsubPeriod
Remember, the FCC's Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers. To report spammers and scammers, visit the FTC site, at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Read the above sentence again.

If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense. Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites. If you forget everything else on this page, remember this:
The DNC LIST is not a call blocker! - LWCalled 3x never leaves a message
- BabsCalled me just a few minutes ago. Thinking it might be a business call I answered. The caller addressed me by name and asked for confirmation. He wanted me to answer some survey questions on a confidential basis. When I told him it depends on what kind of questions, he abruptly hung up.
- Caller: 630-748-8944
- Call type: Survey
- Will| 2 repliesCalled on my cell asking for my wife. I asked who it was and the caller stumbled his words and seemed like he didn't know what to say. Advice to scammers, market research companies and anyone selling stuff over the phone. Don't hire stupid people. If they can barley answer me when I ask who they are we're not going to answer questions or buy anything from you!
- Caller: Market Research or at least that's what the caller thought
- Call type: Survey
- Tygerkat replies to Will| 1 replyOf course, the person you spoke to could be new on the job and you were his very first call so he was nervous, not stupid.
- FredCalled 7:30PM...no message left. I do not answer calls from unknown numbers
- Lucy4.21.18-- Received TWO calls today, from "Lombard IL" (630-748-8944). Both times the caller hung up when the calls were picked up by our answering machine, so the answering machine was only able to record a dial tone noise! I always presume that these types of calls are made by SCAMMERS, especially since an ENTIRE town (Lombard, in this case) CAN'T be calling us~ LOL!!! Seeing the other comments here, stating that this might be some sort of survey or research company, I would caution that it might also be SCAMMERS who are attempting to get people to say "yes", so be very careful IF answering these types of calls. It's unfortunate and unfair that we, the tax paying general public, have to 'jump through so many hoops' in order to try to fend off these nuisance callers. It seems to me that our government, working with the phone companies, should be able to enact some sort of legislation that would give the phone companies more control over "how" and by "whom" their utilities are utilized!
- Caller: "Lombard IL"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Lucy9.24.18 @ 8:45 PM-- Update to my prior post on 4.21.18-- Now this 'caller' [SCAMMER?] is appearing as "Call Research" on the Caller ID! Same M.O., though-- caller does not leave a message, and just hangs up, when the call is answered. What's the point??? Why call people and then just hang up??? Makes ZERO sense! Plus, these types of calls are extremely annoying to receive, especially when they are made so LATE in the evening. NEVER answer these types of calls-- better safe, than sorry!
- Caller: "Call Research"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
