- PB| 1 replyCalled my cell phone. Sounded like an Asian guy. He started saying some garbled stuff that I couldn't understand, so I asked why he was calling. He told me he was calling about my computer. I said what about it, it is just fine. He got agitated and tried to insult me by asking how would I know, that I don't know anything about computers. When I tried to talk back to him he kept talking over me. I asked him since he knew so much, what does he think is wrong with my computer? He started talking over me again. Finally I said if he was going to keep talking over me, what good is it to continue the conversation? He said "It's no good." "Exactly!" I said, "Goodbye," and then hung up.

- Lykesa| 1 replyReceived a call from this # a few minutes ago. I asked him for the message error number that showed I have a problem. He gave me my phone area code! Yes, he sounds like he is from India. I blocked this number from my phone. However, I would be willing to wager this is not the only phone number this call center calls from. S-C-A-M

- prDidn't answer, didn't recognize # and I only give my cell number to friends/ family. That being said, one of these days I am just going to repeat back everything they say to me just to annoy them back.

- miloOh no, my computer needs fixed before it brings down the whole internet and creates world chaos.... These guys are relentless and change their CID numbers faster than I can block them. Oh well, as usual, I muted my phone shortly into the conversation and went back about my business. The caller eventually figured out he was pitching to dead air and hung up. He called back a little later and I said that I didn't know what happed, and did the same thing to him again. This time he did not call back. :)

- Slim replies to Ashley| 1 replyModern technology has given telespammers the tools to call you.
Lawbreaking telescammers ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocking device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information. There are available apps (some free) for smart phones, and services and devices for landlines.
If you cannot use or afford such a tool, then:
• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service. Telespammers usually hang up after 3 or 4 rings.
• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number, and make it more valuable to more spam groups! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete. If the incoming call was important, they would have left a message!
• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group. (This also works for smartphones). The spammer will usually hang up before the phone goes to voicemail.
• Another option, for cell phones: Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers. That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact! You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number! (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers).
If you want to report potential fraudulent or scam calls, here are two pages of links to (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report those scams, or learn more about them.

- SoniaI just received a call from this number, and he asked for me by name...I said this is Sonia. He hesitated...then hung up. Why bother calling me? Stupid.
- San DiegoJust got a call... didn't answer. No voicemail. They are now blocked!
- Annoyed person replies to SlimThanks for your sage advice. People should all do what you suggest and these SCAMers would finally give up bothering people.
- Marie replies to LykesaI got a call from this number, did not answer. Have any of you wonder how these scammers get your name and phone number, it is because the American companies hired these scammers from India for cheap labor. Have you ever call teach support or call to register anything. They use a computer program to create a incorrect name and number, this is the reason these calls will never stop.
