- Unreal| 4 repliesTheses people are unreal, just called and left a message that if I didnt call them back by Monday at noon, "Only God can save me" this is ridiculous, they are calling my phone at least 10 times a day and leaving the same messages, are they telling anyone else their name, and of course they havent heard the term "Social Security" before they are probably illegals trying to scam the American people out of money.....
- Caller: United Legal Processing/National Process
- ec replies to Unreal| 3 repliesIt's a scam. There's no such thing as a Federal Investigation Bureau or United Legal Processing.
This is a very active group of overseas scammers who attempt to extort money from Americans with a myriad of false and illegal threats. They alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, Federal Investigation Bureau, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, United Legal Processing, Morgan Associates, White Collar Crime Unit and many more. These crooks often use caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location and to make it appear that they are calling from American area codes.
(By the way, there are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida. (Read http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 )
The main thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) have the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection. (Debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)
The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money. I suggest you do all the following (most of which you can do online):
1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone who are posing as federal law enforcement. Be sure to give as many details as you can.
3) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone. Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4) File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org
5) File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)
By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

Hope this helps. - terenceSean Miller left messages at my work and at home saying it was very urgent matter and he was trying to help hoping he could speak to me personally. "He really wants to help" but this is a legal matter and I must call him back. He stated this was very urgent and needed my attention. I have received previous calls from this same group. Every few months they call from different numbers, then they move on. Very annoying, hopefully someone will be able to put an end to their harrassing behavior.
- tiffinieI got the same call yesterday saying I would be arrested if I didnt pay them $600 for a debt I paid in 2005. if anyone has any info on this please email let me know as I have filed a complaint with the federal trade commission and they will need all the info we can give to prosicute these people.
thanks- Caller: verizon
- tiffinie replies to roberto g caldronI got the same call yesterday telling me to pay $600 ot I would be arrested. I have reported them to the federal trade commission and I urge everyone who received a call from them to do the same. Lets get them
- sweet tequila| 1 replyyes, I am ANOTHER victim of these callers! i received numerous voicemail calls this past week from 718-831-7157. ALL where from men who seemed to be far east indian (or something like that). Whenever i tried to call back the phone would constantly ring and then a busy signal. But anyway, when i was actually able to reach the caller(s) the first gentleman identified himself as Roy Brown and said he was with the "united ??? Division" and that there was a class action suit being filed against my s.s.#. He said my name and wanted me to verify my s.s.#! when i asked what company he represented he said that i had to answer his questions first. Since I had a hard time with his accent, another caller was placed on the phone "Officer Roy Campbell". when I asked the company name one more time he said that it was the "united legal investigation bureau"! Well... he became upset/irate because i kept interrupting him. He told me to "shut my big fat mouth" so that he could finish the list of questions he had to follow! and when that didn't work he proceeded to tell me that the police would be at my home/job within 24 hours and come monday i would be arrested! :) I asked where this company was located and who were they representing. He told me it was located on 537 N. West Street and why did i want this information. (then he said "what? are you going to come visit my office or something?"!) He must have forgotten that he told me the "call was being recorded" :) then he slammed down the phone.
I, of course, called back because the whole thing seemed strange. This caller identified himself as "Travis" and asked if i could hold the line while he got a glass of water! (yes, this company REALLY has nerve)! I hung up. Unfortunately, i received TWO more calls/voicemails after i hung up!
NOW i have to contact the credit agencies. Unfortunately, I do not know if this company has my correct s.s.# because I wouldn't let them finish the sentence before I started asking questions!
EVERYONE PLEASE DO NOT verify ANY information (not even your name!) contact your local police immediately as i have.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL.- Caller: various aliases
- Call type: Debt collector
- ec replies to sweet tequilaI'm still laughing over that "class action suit against your social security number" line. Another one of their common nonsensical phony threats is that "We will download warrants against you." LOL! This would qualify as comedy if it weren't for the fact that they often succeed in stealing money from unsuspecting consumers.
In addition to reporting these crooks to your local police, you may also want to alert the Secret Service, the FBI, your state's attorney general, and the Federal Trade Commission. See my message above from June 14 for details. - TinaSpirits| 1 replyI too received a call today - now in the past I have had a payday loan but when they call they don't give any information and say that I will have to pay thousands above and beyond the measly 110 I borrowed. Today the caller ID showed the number 52480189 (I didn't answer because it's not a regular phone number) and the message was from someone with a VERY thick West Indian accent and he said he had a case that would be filed under my social security number and I need to call him back at 718-831-7157 as soon as possible. I called back to tell him NEVER to call me again and that I filed a complaint with the FCC but the phone rang and then went busy.
- ec replies to TinaSpiritsGlad to hear you saw through this scam.
There's really not much the FCC can do in this matter. See my message above from June 14 for a list of federal and state law enforcement agencies with whom you can file a complaint. Good luck. - terenceSean Miller, Travis Griffin and some other alias called my office a minimum of 20 times today. Their behavior was appalling. I have reported them to the FBI and I am filing information with the state attorney general's office. I do not know how to get them to stop calling. We simply hang up on them, but they are relentless. Although this is a scam and there is not much to be afraid of, this is annoying, disruptive and ridiculous. Hopefully, this group will be caught soon.
- rod| 3 repliesthe same people called me today. The named they used was "Kevin" from United Legal Counseling SErvices of NPD (National Processing Division). They told me I had to pay them or make arrangements or I would be arrested and sent to jail within 24 hours. They said there were 3 charges being filed against me and the the US has placed a hold on my social security number. They verified a lot of my personal information. I filed a compaint with the states attorney generals office and the federal trade commission thanks to your earlier post.

- M Squared| 2 repliessame here. it's been going on with me for almost 6 months. they have my soc. they have my work # but refuse to send me anything in writing. at first i was nervous but when they told me that that i was a liar and a thief i became more mad than nervous. i've told them constantly to not call my job. i've documented every call. every name. every time. every company they claim to be from. but where they're messing up with me is that my phone lines at work are recorded and corporate policy and the law requires me to advise the person calling. therefore i answer my phone, "-company name- this is -my name- on a recorded line." or something to that effect. they continue to talk. that's on them. they leave messages and of course i have to check them on my recorded line. i'm fed up and could very well lose my job behind these harrassing calls. however i'm going to see this thing all the way through. i'm going to contact the agencies above. if i find out any helpful information i'll be sure to post it.

- PaulaCaller said he was Travis, have heard other names on other days. I actually got a # out of him today, 718-831-7157 what a dummy. He would not email or send me anything, kept repeating my SSN and yesterday that I was with US Bank.
I believe a collection agency w/whom I SETTLED a debt in 2005 sold my information or someone hacked into my information. No one will email me or send anything. They just say they are sending cops to get me, meet me in the jail, etc. I wonder if they ever get people to somehow pay them?????????? I found it unbelievable that someone in India could show up in my parking lot at work in the suburban north midwest in 2 hours, I told him that and he was NASTY. "You are going to be arrested" he said "that he would be here with the cops" and meet me in "THE JAIL" not "JAIL" but "THE jail". I am going to report this I am so furious.- Caller: Legal Investigative Services in NY
