Indian man calling about auto financing he knew most of my important information

Some auto finance place that I've never heard of or have done business with.  Just a recording, but call every other day.  

This # called my 89 yr old mother 4 times in 2 days..  On Jan 31st, he called at 11:27 AM, 4:10 and 5:12 PM, then at 8:26 AM on Feb 2nd..  Comes up UNKNOWN on caller ID..

This caller keeps calling for my deceased grandmother and doesn't accept the message that she has passed away.  He accuses us of being her!

I have gotten 20+ calls in the last three days from these [***]! I am not the person they are calling for but when I tell them they have the wrong number they hang up in mid sentence & then a few minutes later call back asking for the same guy again. I tell them I am not him, CLICK, 15 min later here the call comes again. Each day the caller id shows a different number in a different area code (or sometimes no caller id at all). Really getting tired of this.

Why can't something be done about these harassing people? How do they get the right to call and harass people?!? I ask them nicely to remove my number and that I don't want them to call me anymore, they tell me I'll just keep calling because I can. REALLY?!? SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.

Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocking device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.

Google "call blocker" for more information.  There are available apps (some free) for smart phones, and services and devices for landlines.

If you cannot use or afford such a tool, then:

• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service.  Telespammers usually hang up after 3 or 4 rings.

• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete. If the incoming call was important, they would have left a message!

• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group. (This also works for smartphones).

• Another option, for cell phones:  Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT.  Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers.  That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact!  You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number!  (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers).

This is a scam. The reality is this: they want to steal your money! They will ask you to get a Green Dot card at Walmart and put about $200 on it. Then call them back and give them the number on the card so they can put the money for your new car on it. In reality, they simply steal any money YOU put on it.

They use a computerized dialer. I have blocked over 200 different numbers they use. It's the same folks from India. If you have a cell phone with a feature to block calls, use this feature. You might also get an app like Trapcall to block calls. Before I upgraded my phone I was getting around 15 calls every day from them. Now only about 2 or 3 a week get through - the new ones I have not yet blocked. I always block the new numbers like this one.

It does not good to talk with them. I have tried it all. I have asked the to take me off their list. I have told them they were wasting their time because I was not interested. One time they called and no matter what they said my response was, "Please speak louder because I cannot hear you." I was on the phone with about 25 of them as they passed the phone around and hear me say that one line. One time they called and I called back and they actually answered. Most of the time the number is bogus or a legitimate business. The time they did answer I called back 45 times in a row. They were not happy. They yelled and cursed me calling me a MFer. I continued to call again and again. It was fun. I loved it.

One time I actually played along with them and told them I needed $250,000 for a Lamborghini. That was not problem, I was told. Just get a Green Dot card and they would transfer to money to it.
