I am in Lacolle, QC and have received this call twice in the past month.  Judging by other comments I have read, I strongly suggest you DO NOT press 9 when prompted.  With all the telemarketing fraud out there, I'm concernered that pressing 9 would give them access to my phone line, just like the fraud we have heard about coming from the 809 area code. This, enabling them to make long distance calls overseas using our telephone number.  I do know that Bell Canada does not reimburse such calls as they appear coming from your phone #.  If its too good to be true... IT PROBABLY IS!!!! Beware!!!

Just got a call from this number. I am in Montreal. Andy Rooney from 60 minutes apparently had an item on Telemarketers and said "When you pick up the phone and there is no one on the other end, it is probably a telemarketer system testing if your phone number is a fax or a human. The trick is to immediately start hitting the pound (hash) key on your phone until the line goes dead. This will ensure their computer thinks that your number no longer exists."

I know this is a different situation as it is about a free trip, but figured it worth a try any how. Maybe it will stop the calls to people who keep getting them.

11:30 AM PST   received yet again another call from these people, I normally don't answer but since finding this 800notes site I am more curious to find out what the hell these people want to flog! It was a canned message about winning a free cruise.  That was enough for me to hang up.  I will ignore this group from now on having read other entries.  Would love a Do Not Call Registry to take effect here in Canada soon!.  Have a great day everyone!   Vancouver Canada

People! Once and for all, DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO OR MONEY OF ANY KIND TO PEOPLE WHO WOULD SELL YOU A VACATION... OR ANYTHING!!! Most of the time it is not legit, and you will have lost your money to a bunch of fraudsters.

With all of the legitimate websites out there offering vacations at cut rates, why would you settle for the destination of THEIR CHOICE, anyway??!!

If you want a vacation, go to the honest, advertised, established sites and watch the sales.  It will be a better deal, and you will help to stem the flow of harrassment calls, making your home more restful, too!

It's up to us all to stop this.  Pass it on.

I just got this call and got kind of paranoid so came online to see what I could find.Fortunately for me,I work at a phone company and knew this had to be a scam.I spoke with the guy and I asked him what this was about and he told me that I willingly pressed 9,ya cause I`m curious. He told me I was a good visa/master card semeritan(probably spelt that wrong) and he`s asking if I know what this means.I said I know what it means but I won`t be giving any info about my visa or master card, then he says``mam,it`s all in good fun, thank you`and hangs up.I was kind of scared cause the way he said that, almost like,`thanks I got all the info I need`So just to clear my concience,as long as I give no info I`ll be fine right?

I just received a phone call from this number..and since I have caller id and didn't recognize the number I didn't pick up the phone. It's the same number that has been calling me for 1 week daily.
These scammers, telemarketers or whatever they call themselves now a days are very frustrating to deal with. Every couple of weeks or so they change their numbers in order not to get caught.
People should realize that you don't get something for nothing! The reason why there are so many scammers out there is because there are too many naive people who fall to their prey and willingly give up their credit card information.

Over the past several weeks I have received numerous phone calls originating from the number 802-681-4148 claiming that I have won a trip to some exotic place and that I should press "9" to accept. On most occassions I have simply hung up. But the phone calls kept coming. So finally this last time I pressed "9" to accept and the woman who answered said "Yes, how can I help you?" I said, "You called me." She said, "No I didn't. You were probably called by the auto-dialer and the call has been forwarded to me. Are you calling to accept the free trip promotion?" I said, "No. I'm calling to tell you to stop calling." At which point she promptly hung up.

Answered, hit 9, listened to the spiel and told them I dont have a credit card. They told me its a trip for 2 adults so get someone elses card but today only, no way for me to call them back, they would call me again if I give them my home number. I questioned them and was jovially reassured by MARK that many people are nervous but they are legit, go check out 4vacation.net. I searched and found this site instead. I also asked about the timeshare company name... he had to go check with someone and said the timeshare promoters are known as RCI or II, at rci.com. That was it for that. $158 for 10 days in Orlando including a 3 day cruise. Not too likely.

He hung up immediately when I said not interested, sorry but I see a lot of information on other sites than the one you directed me to... well slamming the phone down immediately tells me your eagerness was all an act.

I am in Ottawa, called the local police line and was advised to have my phone provider (bell) check the line since I had dialed 9... They are closed for the night so I will be doing that first thing in the am. Yikes!

In response to the sending of an email to Level 3 Communications:
I don't think that would help out; unless anyone has any information to the contrary.  All whitepages.com is saying that service provider for the phone number is Level 3 Communications.  The phone number can really belong to anyone or any company.  How do we know this isn't some sophisticated scam using state of the art technology to show that the call looks like it's coming from Vermont but isn't.  One could say I watch too much TV though and am being paranoid. :-)  So if someone has sent an email to Level 3; what was the response.
    Thanks.

I got the call today. What a scam, I'm afraid they are going to continue to call me. Crazy, I heard many voices in the background. It's an organized credit card fraud program they got going on. The lady said she was from escape.net or escapes something. They even went as far as saying they had a deal with RBC Rewards and were giving away free trips.

If you want them to remove you from there call list you must do this.
First, be overly polite, How my conversation went with them...I let them say there speech, Told them my made up name and ph#, they told me about the trip I had won, I yelled out "Hella Looooya its about time"... they continued about the trip and started in as to where I was going to stay. Here's where you have your fun. I asked them if it was wheel chair assessable, they say, But of course...then tell me about the beach...I say that I can go because of the chair and my cancer, Now they feel bad but reassure them its not there fault, they now will talk about indoor things like going to the water park...Well gus what I cant go due to my chair, cancer, oxygen tank and really bad growths and my hairs falling out...after I told him that he hung up on me.     Go figure?

Got the call on my landline... Although I do know it's affecting cell phones too. I work for TELUS and this is a call driver for all carriers. I tried to extract a company name or location from these guys, but the scammers are well trained and they'll simply hang up on you if you don't cooperate or if you ask too many questions. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFO!
