I had this same issue and they were calling my job and bothering me.  I told them they will be sued for harrassment if they do it again.  Companies are getting out of control lately and trying to find anyway they can to get money from people so they use intimidating tactics like what they've told us to do so.

this is a fraud, apparently they can access your information if you've ever taken out a payday loan from somewhere else. you are supposed to report it here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

I just received the most disrespecful phone call from a person claiming to be associated with cash america. The person stated that they have attempted to withdraw funds from my account and they threatened to inform my place of employment and have me arrested.  I checked my bank accounts and didnt find any recent fraud activity but I did inform my bank in order to find out what options I have to protect my bank account.

I have now received a second threatening call from this number. I left a message on my cell phone saying if I didn't return my call immediately that their would be harsh consequences, and that if I don't call back she can only wish me luck as the situation unfolds on me. She is requesting a call from myself or my attorney. They are gutsy, I will say that!

I just received a phone call from these people and it was some woman saying that I owed $10, 000 for a loan that I even did not know about and if I dont respond back to them, they were going to hire a lawyer and take me to court and also they were going to call my employment. I think this is some kind of a scam.what should I do about this.

You should ignore them. They're frauds. If you choose to talk to them again, tell them that you have not received the required notice of validation by mail (NOT e-mail or fax.) as per federal regulations under the FDCPA. They'll start blustering & making threats. Thereby proving that they're nothing but bogus and/or fraudulent debt collectors attempting to collect an invalid, time-barred or purely fictitious debt.
The people behind these scams are the lowest of the low. Think of them as such. Treat them as such. They're nothing but an annoyance.
    Be Safe. Be Aware.

What you and Mr. Bishop should do is not obey any demands made by the creeps on the phone. To wish "luck as the situation unfolds" is a well established talk-off phrase used by fake payday loan collectors in South Asia. If you were sued for some moldy debt there would be a real docket number and a real complaint filed at a real courthouse near you. All you have is some grade school dropout making idle threats.

Descriptions in this thread are of extortion dressed as debt collection. Consumer debts in America, including payday loans, are a *CIVIL* matter, not criminal! Debt collectors do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal.

My notes from October 2011 on payday loan and "hot check" collectors are linked below.
