Scam attempt.  No one gets a heads up they'll be served - the process server just shows up.  Legitimate, law abiding debt collectors have no problem giving their legal company name, physical and mailing address and website if any.  Refusal to tell you their name is another violation of federal law.

Follow the steps in what you need to know. A legitimate debt collector agency should not have a problem with giving you a real business name and address you can google and verify via google street view, BBB etc.
For extortion Scam Operations, file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..

A man calls me up stating his name is Matt Bennett and he has sent papers to an address I have not been too for over 2yrs, said that I was being sued for 1500.00 and wanted me to pay it before it went to court. I asked him to send me the info to my address now and I would not have a problem paying it. He changed the subject and stated oh, I see so you dont want to pay the debt, and I said I do, but I will not do it over the phone, I need to see where this is coming from. He stated to me that it was from a pay day loan. I have never done a pay day loan, so now I am upset because he would not send me the info to my address and is arguing at me not to do so, because they already tried that.

These guys are the bottom feeders of the collection world. They don't even have a physical address (short of a basement or a back of some warehouse). What they do is they buy cheap leads - cheap because the debt has already passed the statute of limitation time period - and try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Since they operate under the radar they can use harassment tactics that the legitimate collection companies won't use. Since practically they are operating in the grey area of the law, the best way to go after them is through your state's attorney office.

Actually the guy that answered the phone when I called back said he was with "LDA Law Group in Los Angeles."  After he asked for personal information and I said "There's no way in hell I'm giving you that" he told me to wash my mouth out with soap and hung up on me.  Being the individual I am, of course I called him back. I tried to explain to him that no one will call to deliver a certified letter, but he didn't want to hear that.  He did want to know if I had "anything to disclaim"  (Answer: "Yes, you are a scammer) and then he said something along the lines of wanting to know if I had papers in front of me (Answer: "Yes, tons of them!").  He wanted to know why I was doing this to him and my response was "because I'm bored and I figure I'll terrorize you like you have terrorized my family for the past 24 hours?"  He told me "God made you better than that" to which my reply was "No, God made me better than scammers like you."  He hung up on me, again. FYI, these are not bill collectors.  Less then 24 hours after the first phone concerning my husband being "Served with a certified letter" which half his family received my husband wanted to know why I would have bought furniture in a state on the other side of the country.  I didn't, but alas, someone did, and I have a sneaky feeling it was the "nice" gentleman I spoke with twice today.  Who knows, I might get bored later on today, or tomorrow and amuse myself by making another phone call.  Long live VoIP numbers!

I got a voice mail message on my phone today 7/24/2014 at 12:54pm. This message said; This is an Alert Message Notation (7) Cops. There has been Information was sent from your location and we felt to hear from you. Please contact 844- 515- 8189  to provide your immediate statements. So I call my local Police Dept. to find out if they knew anything, because I know COPS is not a term Police Officers  or Law Officials use to call themselves! She said that they would not have made a call like that. She told me to look up the phone number that called me on the internet to see if their were others getting called from this number! As you can see I did just that! These people are just scammers! Many people have complaints from this number 844-515-8189. Some are different! Some are called with threats, some say they are debit collectors, they all are trying to get more information from you or money! I never returned the call. I do expect I will be getting more calls from them! I will tell them they have been had! That their phone number is all over the internet about this bogus company that calls people harassing them! Never gives their Company name just their phone number! This is a scam company people beware!

They are now calling me from two different numbers . I reported them to the fraud dept. of my bank since they were trying to get me to give them my bank info.

These people somehow got a hold of a number I have that I only have given out to very few people.  They also called my father and threatened him about me (and I'm in my 40's).  How they got his cell number is beyond me.  Considering my father owned a debt collection company, their practices are nowhere near legal, or ethical for that matter.  They buy old debt past the legal point of collections for pennies on the dollar, and hustle people with threats.  They called me today twice in a row from a restricted number.  Luckily, I have my phone setup to roll them to voicemail automatically, because I don't answer restricted number calls.  Of course, they threatened the whole "legal papers" deal on their voicemail.  I almost want to call them back and say I'm from the DOJ (Dialing On [***]) to see if they would like a taste of their own medicine.

They have also called a friend of mine, and did the same thing.  I was there when it happened, and she was ill.  I asked them if they were employed by the federal government of the United States of America specifically.  They dodged my question twice, and I told them that any and all communications from that point forward needed to be handled via regular mail, and to stop calling.  To my knowledge, they have...

For 3 weeks now, I've been getting a recording about someone I've never heard of. I called the number and asked for "Mike". He argued with me that I'm harboring the person they're looking for. LOL!! Too funny. Finally I told him I hope they find the culprit and to please smack him up side his head for using phony phone numbers to do his business with.

These people are idiots! They keep harassing my mother and I and they need to go tell. I will be filing a police report. They will not take anyone to court, it's an illegal scare tactic. They have some information from me but not a whole lot. They very shady. The man who answered was Joseph Sanchez. I game him a file number from the unknown number that called me before. I got transferred to an sob that said I owed $1,461.87 from a loan back in 2011 (pay day loan) - would not say what company and it was never paid for with my bank of America account, which I do not have. Most pay day loans now have been shut down anyways so they are obviously scammers. It's funny because I kept telling this dude I did not take out any loans and he said that 3 loan documents were sent to my "address" well first, nothing was sent and if it's legal documents, surely they were certify mail it, second, he accused me of lying about not receiving these documents, and third he was avoiding a lot of questions I had and started raising his voice. If you are reading this, do not even call these people, they are a waste of time but do report them to the bbb. And this is their website:

    http://www.pacldagroup.com/#!form/cim

It wants you to pay them right there! How pathetic.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
