Called my brother and said that they are trying to serve me with legal papers and if I didn't respond they were going to proceed with legal action without me. They would only give him a case number, no name or company. This really pisses me off that people harass like this!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you

.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Do not return this phone call! Scamming for your credit card as "process servers" taking you to court in four to five days in another state you've lived in. Scary: Called another family member first, and had personal info that was close to exact!  If the reason for the "collection" hadn't been coming out of left field, I wouldn't have known. Had to call back from another phone to trip them up into admitting they'd take a lesser amount.  BUSTED!

A man called me from this number while I wasn't home and I called back because my mother said it was urgent and she didn't really know why. So I. Called back and the man told me that I owed $763 from 2009 and that is impossible since I'm only 18 and was about 12 years old in 2009. The caller had my social security number and DOB and full name. It's scary to know that someone has my information! And after he explained I said I was obviously too young to have any debt like that and he said "well obviously you're right and I'll just close the case." And he hung up.

I busted this [***]!!! She says I gotta call 855-366 5231 but my caller ID showed her # as 347-298-5411!!!
Everyone call that #, ball her the phuck out!!!! Then report her ashy @$$ to the FTC!!! Google FTC, follow direction, may take 5-10 minutes but well worth the time!!!

Have you considered anger management? Or Greek Style Yogourt? Perhaps a milder cigarette with just a whisp of Menthol?

The call came from a cell phone in New York, 347-623-4211, saying that they are a 3rd party calling to inform about an outstanding debr and for further information to call 855-366-5231. When I called that number I got an answering machine saying the company was R and J Fimr. A quick Google seearch brought up R and J Consulting Firm http://www.rjconsultingfirm.com/index.html . I called their published number 855-552-9932 and got a recording that said the number you are dialing is not in service.

You'd think criminals would be a bit smarter in this day and age of technology. Can you say M-O-R-O-N-S? I knew you could.

They call from NY which I have not lived in since 1999 saying it is a legal matter a complain had been issued against me. Don't know what it is all about.

It's a scam, that's what it's all about.  If you have a "legal complaint" against you, you don't hear about it first via some vague phone call.  You would receive something either via certified/registered mail or via process server - who does NOT call you ahead of time.

855-366-5231  called my brother and said they we're getting ready to file charges against me.  Gave him a case number too.  They used my maiden name which I haven't used in decades.  I'm not even going to waste my time with these scammers.  But will spread the word on FaceBook to all my friends and family about these crinimals.  

Have received calls from this and varied numbers stating that I needed to call because they were taking legal action.  Called my folks and stated I needed to call or they would go to court without me.  Well lets start with the obvious.  I have never received mail or email related to the debt only vague phone calls.  The company website R & J Consulting shows phone numbers are supposedly in CA.  This number traces back to India outside Bangladesh.  With a little research I will bet that the address will actually turn out to be a mailbox; the Suite A-469 is a format often seen in commercial mailbox locations.  Now lets attack the website.  The copy never actually states what they do.  The pictures are scavenged and they did not even bother to change the photo names.  Save a pic off the site and look at its file name or simply run a search by picture on Google.  Granted companies do use clip art, but not bad "I found it on Google images" bad.  

Additionally I have actually worked collections for both Capital 1 and Mercedes.  I know the law.  So I am going to call and time how fast they hang up on me.  I figure when I don't give my info, but ask for theirs it will shut down fast.  I will update after the call.

Just got the call too.  Was like huh, then told the girl who called from 951 566 4935.  They tried to give me some case number, told me it was identity theft...  I laughed and told her to F off.  Before that I also told her she was breaking the law, and guilty of wire fraud, interstate commerce crimes as well a s slew of FTC regs.  Told her that she was scum.  She said "I just work here" to which I replied, "well, then you work for scum"..

I got a call to call 855 366 5231 and when I called and asked about who was saying I owe money they would not tell me unless I verified info or gave info.

My daughter received a call from this number and only gave her the case number. Then she asked what was this in reference to stating that her father was given a summons in another state that we are from but no longer live there. My husband and I were standing there listening to the conversation. My daughter asked again what is this in regards to they then proceed to ask her do she have information for him she said no I can not give you that information. My husband return the call on my phone the girl is going to ask if he is the individual he said yes she said, I will transfer you over but she was listening to see if we saying anything. Then we are either speaking to the same individual all you hear is this person laughing on the phone she then processed to ask what is his last four of his social security he said you tell me then she did not want to proceed with the phone call. Everyone be careful you do not get a summons over the phone it will be sent to you in the mail.

They called my ex husband said they were taking legal action on me but asking for my last name when I was married to him but have been remarried for a while now. He told them the only contact he has is through our daughter. But we are all friends also so  he gave me a call to let me know that they were trying to get info on me. Going to report them to FBI stop fraud dept. They also called him from a New York number but gave him the 855-366-5231which is in california.

I actually used to work here, only for a week until I figured out they are running a scam and I wanted no part of it. It's a debt collection call using illegial scare tactics. They try to make it sound like it's 2 different offices but really the people who call you and the number you call back (the 855 number) is all in the same office in California; R&J Consulting. They lie about the dates the account was opened and closed because most of it is from 1980-2003. They will not take you to court but will try and scare you into believing your in legal trouble. Do not answer the calls and definitely do NOT pay these bottom feeders. Everyone who works there is highly uneducated and only make money if YOU pay.
