JJ23 Nov 2008I'm so glad we researched this. My husband and I thought it was too good to be true. My husband emailed this scoundrel, aka "SGT. DENNIS MILLER" at RAF Lakenheath, Air Force Base in the U.K. Claimed there would be no shipping costs cause he would have it sent on one of the cargo planes right to our address. My husband, being quite the business man, kept asking all the right questions and each time something wouldn't make sense. So I started looking into this Air Force Base, couldn't find any listing for this Sgt. Miller. I looked up the address of the person who was to be the "agent" for ebay motors and came up empty handed. The car was a 2005 Mercedes E class. Price was something like $4850. I finally punched in the number and THANK YOU! Have to admit, it was a pretty good scam he or they thought up...but if anyone ever comes across a "too good to be true" offer, keep asking questions. You will find, like I said, that things don't add up. Thanks to all of you, as well and I feel horrible for those of you who were victims of this and can get your money back and or some kind of justification for all this. I am going to report this locally and to the proper authorities, FBI/CIA, and anyone else who will listen. I don't know if anyone has reported him on Craig's list yet, but I'm going to heading there next. My husband turned him into Ebay. If no one minds, I'm going to try to push this through to the media and refer to this forum. Those Damn Scammers!- we were scammed too. It was a sgt dave hunter in uk....my husband did verify (he is military too)that dave hunter is a sgt and was stationed where he said he was.....I wonder if the next person scammed will be by a person using my husbands name...they know he's in the army, they know his us mailing address.....so the next person scammed could be by someone using my husbands name. If the person checks the info, all will pan out....I have called every entity I can think of(including the white house)no one seems interested, I guess cuz we are peons. I contacted all the local news stations trying to get the info out there, and none of them has seemed interested in our dilemma....this scam has been going on a long long time....I can't believe no one has stopped them, they are using the same phone number..archie tothall was supposed ebay agent
- did you hear that congress passed something last week to get craigslist, ebay etc. to prove these are legitimate sales so hopefully we can see some improvement or even some of the money lost. I pray they hold craigslist responsable and recover my money because I need it.email me with any info you may have to help me THANKS.
- it was not craigslist fault you were scammed any more than it would be a newspapers fault if you posted a classified for sale ad and some scam artist got your number from there. craigslist is a FREE service which holds no responsibility for the people using it AND evens warns sellers NOT to deal with nonlocal people and has a dedicated page to avoid being scammed which is linked to the very first page YOU are susposed to read before posting an item for sale. do your homework and take it as a life lesson
- I was looking online for a new vehicle because I'm deployed and I don't have a vehicle to come home too. I found a 2005 Toyota Tacoma for $4,850.00 with 40,500 miles on it. I jumped at the chance to contact this "ssgt david hunter" so I could find out how to purchase this vehicle while I was here. Luckily, being deployed hinders me from being able to person to person tranfer money thru moneygram so we got the scam before anything happened. I just hope my name is not used in the next scam. That scares me. Well, I guess everyone wants to make it more difficult for a good person to buy a vehicle.

- i have seen so many different vehicles from these people that its truly ridiculous that someone cant catch them. Flood and Maria Goodson- I just wanted to add that my boyfriend was almost scammed due to this too i knew the deal for this truck on craigslist sounded too good to be true but he emailed the guy anyways but what caught my attention is that the guy could never call him he repetedly asked him to call him so they could discuss the details since my bf is not much of a computer guy but the guy never would call but not until we received this last email asking to send the money western union is when i KNEW it was a scam any time you send money like that that cant really be tracked i assume its a scam and i hope that anyone who reads these will not be scammed we got lucky this time but many people have been scammed out of hard earned money and its not right.

- same thing right now with a 2005 Prius advertised in WA state in autotrader.com. I pulled VIN which he has, and it was the right car. But he says he's going through ebay buyer protection without posting the car on Ebay. Ebay does not allow that! He says someone from Ebay will call me to get the bank info for the refundable $2,000 deposit! yeah, right.
