- John replies to fatherkumaWe have been receiving calls from this company under the following numbers. 4077375221, 4074417826, 4072491572, 8663083287 and 8662183883.
They are calling every day. - annoyed!also gets the very long message from "janice" / recorder that repeats 2 to 3 times (and saturates my voicemail) and seem to call daily.
Please make it stop!!!!! - Lulu in FloridaI emailed a complaint on these scammers to the Florida Attorney General's office. Suggest you do the same in your state. We didn't return "Janet's" calls, but Googled the phone number 866-218-3883 & found this site. Can't help wondering how many folks were so intimidated that they actually sent these crooks money to pay their "debt". They need to be stopped!
- Call type: Debt collector
- AFBReceived Call from someone at "Ocwen Airforce Base" ( no such thing ) Wanting personal information including my own phone number, SSN, etc....
Also wanted the phone number for my next door neighbor.
Told them to go back to basic training. 816.218.3883 was the number - Lulu in FloridaALERT! As of Feb 4, 2008, these scammers are now using a different phone number -- now it's 866-218-3870 instead of 866-218-3883. Instead of calling from my own phone, I went to a pay phone & called the new number. The Indian-accented man answered. He identified his company as "OCWEN". I told him I knew this was a fraud, & that I'd filed complaints with the FTC, National & State Do Not Call Registries, & the Fla. Atty General. FILE OFFICIAL COMPLAINTS! If enough of us do this, we might get the attention of the authorities who can shut this outfit down.

- Lulu in FloridaI've finally figured this one out. The excuse for these calls is usually a long-ago, fictitious "debt". This is a ruse, to get around the "DO NOT CALL" law, which DOES allow calls from debt collectors. When you tell them that (a) you aren't the person they're looking for, or (b) you don't owe that money, they then ask you to "verify" your name, Social Security number, address and in some cases, your bank account number! So the REAL GOAL OF THESE CALLS IS TO STEAL YOUR IDENTITY. This is evidently a nation-wide, ongoing scam. Report it to your telephone company, the FTC, the Do Not Call Registry (if you're on that list) and your state's Attorney General. These thieves identify themselves as agents of OCWEN. Whether that's true or not is unknown.

- Rd| 1 replyThe same rep calls, but doesn't exactly say why he's calling. I do not have this company on my credit report. He's not very convincing that he is an actual company. He wanted me to verify my personal information before telling me what its about. Scary

- BigA replies to RdMore than likely this is a criminal debt collector trying to extort money from you. Read the following and go to the links provided for more help:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
In addition, any other information you can give us would be helpful. Such as their location if you can get it out of them. - AnNoYeDWell this phone # is at it again . Calling my work direct line 2x a day (7-8 am then around noon).
As soon as I reject the call - the # dials my old co-workers # within seconds.
Our direct lines # are different & this is a large company (several hundred people), so its not like they are just going thought the #'s...
I read that now the "company" using this # / Scam is Nationwide Credit (who has bad rep)
DEFINITELY A SCAM- Caller: FullofPoo Inc

- Dale replies to JanieUnfortunately, the DNC laws are only enforceable within the US. I’m not even sure if the law applies to foreign companies...I doubt it.
