It's from this company (http://www.simmassociates.com/). I've looked up the whois domain (http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/simmassociates.com). Looks like a debt collector but their website is more of a template then ever. Seems shady.

Received an automated call from this number; they asked for someone not at this residence or known to me; I pressed "1" to connect and speak to someone to let them know the party they were seeking did not reside at this number; I held on 17 minutes with no living person so hung up.  Redialed the #866 572 9372 and a man named Jim answered who assured me this was his business line, he was an IT guy and not any type of solicitor so have reported this to my phone company.

I got a call from this number and they put me on hold. I held for 20 minutes and they never came on the line. I called back and I left a message saying my phone number and name and if the call wasnt for me then the need to cease and desist or I would report them to the authorities.

Just put them on "reject" list as I did, dropping the call, and also, they never leave the message as there is no my name in voicemail intro.

BTW, I stopped paying my CC as they raised an interest rate from 3.5% to 33%. So now they're trying to collect my debt. I was making payments 300-400% of minimum amount and they were still greedy. Idiots!!!

Had to get a landline phone as part of my package with cable and internet.  Haven’t had a landline phone for 15 years.  My building is brand new doesn’t even have phone jacks for land lines.  This company Simms somehow found my vacant number and called it nonstop to a not in use - impossible to be in use - phone line - over a bill that was already paid.  I just clicked on the app for my internet and it said you can track your missed calls and I was like whoa these people are nuts.  They called a dead number to no phone every day for months for a bill that was paid.

Got a call from a Derrick Graham, says he works for Simms.  Wanted me to verify my personal info which I didn’t give.  Said it was about a financial issue and could only discuss it if he knew he had the right person.  Wouldn’t tell me which company forwarded him my file or what kind of financial issue he was calling about, even after I explained I could check with the company who gave him my info if I knew.  I asked for an employee ID and he said he didn’t have one.  He suggested I check the website to see which companies they work with.  I did and it’s not too clear; they are in Delaware and it says their call center is located in Delaware.  The caller ID for his number said it was from Eastern WA.  I checked their website and no numbers for Eastern WA are listed.  I checked the 1-866-572-9372 number he gave me and it doesn’t match any of the 1-800 numbers I found on Simms site.  I’m not comfortable calling back.

Well, so far he is 100% correct in following the law.  That's as far as I can go on legalities.

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two or more federal and state agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

Looks like New York City spanked them:  http://www1.nyc.gov/assets/dca/downloads/pdf/ ... tes_5349356.pdf
And the best one a lawsuit where Simm Associates committed fraud (who would have guessed a debt collector would do that):  https://dockets.justia.com/docket/minnesota/mndce/0:2009cv00798/105923/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
