***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

    Some Tips:
    *Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

They seem to specialize in trying  to get people related to a deceased person to pay the deceased persons debts, even though the relative is not responsible.   They also collect on student loans.  They can be deceptive.

Got a call on my voicemail earlier today from this number; caller wanted to "speak to the person in charge of the affairs of the Late (my mother's name)."  Obviously they already know she has passed away..(two years ago now), but they seem to be counting on relatives not knowing that they/we are not responsible for any debts she may or may not have had outstanding when she passed.

Just wanted to let everybody know that I've been receiving phone calls and letters in the mail after a relative of mine had passed away about 6 - 7 months ago.

Earlier today (March 2nd, 2016), a lady that I spoke to stated she was from SIMM Associates looking to collect a debt in the amount of $700+ from somebody who handles the deceased's estate.  She asked me who I am, what the deceased's date of death was, and the county that they resided in at the time of passing.

After confirming, she asked me if I was willing to settle for a certain percentage.  I informed her that nobody is legally obligated to pay a deceased person's debt(s) and, as well, once said person passes away, their debt(s) go along with them.

She then informed me that they will be looking to see if the deceased had any money in their estate.  I told her there were no administrators, executors, probate/probate proceedings, cosigners and, absolutely no assets of/belonging to them.  She told me to have a good day and immediately terminated the call.

They're pretty much grasping at straws at this point.

This number called me, said that I needed to respond to the debt of someone with the last name as me.  No one in my family with that name.  If a "collections" company can't even get there stuff straight enough to know what they are talking about then I call SCAM.

I was advised by the probate attorney to not speak with these people. If they have a legitimate claim against the estate of a deceased person they have already been informed by certified mail and if they were somehow missed the laws here in Florida state they have 60 days to file a claim after public notice was printed in a local newspaper..

I got 2 calls in 2 minutes from this number saying they were looking for the person in charge of the estate of a dear friend who passed away about 7 month ago. A lot of the message was fairly garbled. My friend left an executor in charge who is very conscientious so I know everything is being handled correctly. Not sure where they got my number but I will not be calling them back or telling the executor about the calls. It's bound it be a scam.

Received a message regarding an alleged debt owed by my deceased father. In investigating his accounts before passing, he did not have an account with the credit card indicated in the voice mail message I received. Not only did they call me, I received a very frightened call from my elderly mother (parents divorced for decades) who had made the mistake of answering the telephone and was harassed by these people.  My father is deceased and we are still dealing with the estate - my mother is in poor health and being harassed. These people need to be stopped by all legal means possible. They are the lowest of low in the collection business.

I got a call from this number looking for the next of kin for my mom, who passed in November, and that they were calling for her discover card. Now I did a lot a research and this was a legit call in my case. Just do your research bc yea a lot of these people are scammers but for me this was legit. The man was very sympathetic for my loss and more than respectful.

    Readers:
    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

Read the above again, for understanding!

    Be Safe, Not Sorry!

This is a scam which now uses the, "your loved one is dead, please call" gimmick. They get your number from EASY MONEY. When you use anyone as a reference, they call them because EASY MONEY sells your information. There is nothing the honest employee(s) can do. It is not a decision we have control over. The person who sells the information gets $500 for each batch of 100 names and viable numbers. They probably, (not sure), do this at other money loan and title companies. Just a warning folks-don't give out your relative or friends information as a reference, or you are the cause of the problem.

They cant put a lien on your home unless they have sued you and won a settlement that you then don't pay, then they petition the court for a judgement.

They called me. My mother recently passed and they are hired by PayPal Bill Me Later to recoup the money owed. There is no estate as she had been in a nursing home for several months. They are threatening to take me to court since I was the POA.  I have been told that I am not liable from her other debts. These people are crooks and have zero compassion.

No, as POA you are not personally responsible for her debts and telling you that violated the FDCPA.  You should be suing them and making them pay you  and your mother.
