I received a phone call today from a Ryan Williams who claimed he was from a company called Member Card Services (also known as Mutual Consolidated Savings according to their website www.mcsprograms.com). He claimed my telephone number had been provided to him by my bank, he was working for all the banks and he could reduce the interest rate on my credit cards considerably (prime +1) by negotiating a deal with my bank. As soon as he wanted my credit card number to verify I was in good standing with my bank I knew something was up. I was on-line at the time and tried researching the website he provided me with and it looked okay until I tried to click on "Contact Us", my computer came up with a warning that it's certificate was not valid and basically stated they could be a fraud. Ryan expressed extreme wonder and then gave me his customer service number for me to call and confirm his identity and said he would call back in half an hour to carry on our conversation. Instead of calling his customer service number I phoned my bank who had never heard of them. I then Googled the company name and found an article by Tony Tighe of Global TV Calgary warning of a telemarketing fraud. Apparently what they don't tell you is that they will charge you $695 USD for their services. Needless to say when Ryan phoned back I told him to go to H.E.double hockey sticks! I then thought I'd research it more and found this website. Thanks for letting me know who to report it to. Even tho it’s embarrassing to admit I almost got caught I thought I should share my experience, he sure was convincing. I’m gonna use the excuse that my brain is not firing on all cylinders today.

      Dear mfpb123 & others,
Hi, I actually work for MCS, and I'm really very tired of all this negative, false, slander! I don't even know where to begin... yes, we do cold call people, and I realize its a pain is the a$$ to get these phone calls. BUT we have purchased your information and have all legal right to call you UNTIL you take necessary actions to stop/prevent such. No, we are not a scam! Obviously he gave you his office #, if it was a scam I highly doubt other wise. Yes, it does involve a fee (which varies)  We do guarantee to save you thousands of dollars (depending on how much you actually owe) again guarantee, of course its not free, nothings free! Also you say you called your bank Well you talked to a 20 something year old custom service rep that gets paid $8 an hour and has no idea about anything outside his/her cubicle... WE deal with your bank or lenders under-writing division (or whole-sale if you will) and speak to specific people with college degrees and actually have a career... MOST IMPORTANTLY........... you found this web site, full of lazy upset people, that are not even clients of ours!!!!! You're choosing to trust random internet strangers, that have no factual basis on any of these complaints... What you SHOULD have done is look the company up on a real factual based website, like I don't know maybe the Better Business Bureau! We have a B+ last time I checked. NOW, I believe I stated my peace, and what I would so if I were you is call Ryan back up and appoligize and you can tell him "my brain is not firing on all cylinders today."

Really?  I work for MBNA Mastercard and clearly you are mistaken.  I am the "20 something year old custom service rep" but let me tell you, I do know quite a bit about what is going on in the bank.  I make a decent salary and I do have a college education to my name.  You have no problem slamming the professionalism of bank employees, yet whenever I get one of your reps on the phone I am less than impressed at the manner in which you address both me and my client.  Gum smacking, chatting with your co-workers, calling clients by their first name, the list goes on.  As far as I can tell, this "service" that you provide is based on misinformation and misleading people.  I have been on those 3-way calls you make to our bank and you try to tell the customers that you "work with the bank" and when I advise my customer that NO, we are not affiliated, they always sound confused.  When you call us, you speak with customer service.  Do you really think you speak to some special department that will happily lower interest rates because some company that we are not associated with calls them?  You're sadly mistaken.  I tell each and every one of my customers who asks about it that we are NOT associated with you, and that they are completely welcome to discuss their rates and product options with us FOR FREE!

I was a victim of this scam.  They called with a123-456-78900 number first, which when you pick it up and listen, you press 1 to get to an operator. That operator tells you that they can lower your credit card interest rates. LIE #1.  If you are a sucker, you agree to listen and they transfer you to another operator, in my case, her name was Jenna. She told me they were an american credit debt reducing service that worked directly with the bank to get them to lower your interest rates. BIG LIE #2  Stupidly I agreed to the service and they charged my credit card 800 bucks. Did nothing at all but send me a bunch of computer generated pay schedules and a book on how to talk to your credit card company.  They also record your agreement to the charge so that you cant dispute it with your credit card, so you are screwwwedd. Not only that, but they now have a credit card number and your pin on the back.  Now you are out your money, and they have your info.  Bad news.  After I started doing a bit of research, I found lots of negative hits on Mutual Consolidated Savings and started to make a stink. I called the Better BUsiness Bureau, called the police, called my bank, they told me they were getting hundreds of complaints about MCS and could do nothing as I had agreed on a recording to the charge.  They also confirmed that they did not negotiate interest rates with third parties. I called my phone service, and I repeatedly called MCS to complain. Each time I got a different operator because the person I had spoken to was out to lunch, stepped out, etc.  I spoke to Jenna, Kim, Karen, Colby, Rachel, Jennifer, Jessica, Mandy, Penny.. etc.  I finally decided to scam the scammers and sent a lawyers letter by fax to the company which stated that we were in possession of transcripts of their promises and had recorded all these calls ourselves. If the charge on the credit card was not reversed immediately, we would publish the names, dates and phone numbers and extensions of each client representative and each false promise or outright lie told in blogs, internet chat rooms and in the newspaper.  I was sent a letter in the mail agreeing not to discuss what had happened in return for my money returned.  I didnt sign it.  Two days later, another client rep called to discuss my concerns. I asked her to hold on and pressed my  #3 button, and said OK, go ahead.. she said, what was that... I said, im recording our conversation as per my lawyers instructions.  SHe put me on hold and transferred me to a supervisor who advised that despite the fact that they were under no obligation to refund my money, they would as they did not want me to be unhappy with the service.  My money was refunded the next day back onto my credit card and I immediately called my credit card company and had the card cancelled and reissued so that they couldnt dip into my account some time in the future.

You think its a scam?  It sure is.  You think they take advantage of people that are in financial trouble?  They absolutely do!  Im a client, and it happened to me.  Only by outscamming the scammers did I manage to get my money back. Thats one for the good guys.

Hi. Started to do some research on this company. Because I am currently working there. Whether you beleieve it or not, the employees are being scammed as well. I want to act on it but in a smart way. I don't quite know what to do, and who to ask about legal advice. Do you still get the calls? And are you interested in bringing this company down or do you know someone that wants to. I will check these postings further...

P--- I'm a consumer investigator in Seattle.  I've been looking into MCS for a few months now.  What do you know about managers using pseudonyms?  Claims of double/multiple billing?  Knowingly calling people on the Do Not Call list (in US and Canada's equivalent?)

Dear MCS EMPLOYEE.....For your information I called the Bank and the Lender and they told me flat out that the call that I received from your company was fraudulant.  I also checked you out on BBB and your rating is C- Lots of complaints.  When the woman who called me asked for my 7 #'s on the back of my credit card I told her NO WAY!!!  She proceeded to tell me that she already had these #'s and she just wanted to verify.  I told her that if she had the #'s she needed to tell me them and I would tell her if they were correct or not.  She repeated that she had the #'s and that I had to tell her to verify them.  You people are crooks and should be legally charged for your crime.  If I would have been an elderly person not quite understanding what was happening, you would have charged my credit card for your fees for "HELPING ME"....then turned around and said you could not get me a lower interest rate.....GET A LIFE...AND A REAL J O B. I would be thoroughly ashamed to admit I was an emplyee if I were you.....and thank God I'm not!!!!!

Really?  Because you have purchased my information, this gives you the right to harass me?  That really sounds like an ethical business policy.    No wonder your client satisfaction is so low.   Millions of people are complaining about you.   This website is the perfect example.   What don’t you get about this?  ALL COMMENTS are negative.  But they are NOT FALSE nor SLANDER.   You want to talk about facts?   Like I don't know maybe the Better Business Bureau?   Sure, let’s go look at your rating.

        http://www.bbb.org/western-washington/busines ... oma-wa-27028696

It is not B+ as you claim.  It is an F!!!   As in Failure!!!  If you clean up your act it might go back to D-  !!!  Nothing to be too proud about.    I hope the authorities catch up to you and eventually close down this company Mutual Consolidated Savings.  Now, YOU, please apologise to everyone here for harassing them for all those years!

I know better. I am an EX employee and I do KNOW better. We were paid to read from a script. An automated dialer is used to call people, MCS did NOT pay for any information from the banks. It was the telemarketer's job to gather credit card information. The odds were in MCS's favor that you reached someone, by cold calling, that actually had credit cards with a balance on them. The higher 'available' credit, the more the potential client was going to be charged. We were highly praised, when we had a client with at least $1300 available, because they were going to be charged $1199. The more we could charge, the more we were able to keep our jobs. I walked out the door one day, saying "no more... I cannot lie to people anymore..." and have never regretted that decision to leave!

B+ rating at the B.B.B? Try an F, that's what it was when I checked on June 22nd 2009. These Vermin got my Mom (Eighty years old and Naive to the ways of so called businesses like this)for $800 Canadian. I know pursuing them legally would be a exercise in futility, but I  promise I am going to make them known to as many people as I possibly can. One thing keeps me from boiling over when I think about my sweet Mom being taken by a bunch of crooks. The Owners and their Employees may be gloating at the money they are taking in due in large part to the naivety of the older people they target. However life has taught me many things, and one of the main things I'm sure all of us can attest to learning is. "You reap what you sow" So I take solace in the fact that the losers that run this scam will eventually get their just reward. And when they fall they will fall hard

I also got scammed.  I had a lady Rachel Derricks or something like that.  I made such a stink that they refunded my money.  Good part of this is that when I signed up and they debited my credit card, our dollar was pretty close to par, and when I got my money returned, as they charge in US dollars, something the didnt bother to tell me either)  the dollar was about 25% down, so I actually MADE some money on the deal.  Oh, and they charged me 1200 bucks.  Guess it depends on how much debt you have as to how much they try to suck you in for.
Fight back!  make threats!  call them!  threaten to sue, complain to the credit card company, call the cops, file a complaint with the BBB (they are not recognized by the BBB by the way -- liars, cheats, scammers.

Hello... I have been helping an elderly neighbor of mine that has just got sucked up into this scam.  I came home and started to try and find out more on these awful people on line, and that's when I read your note about them also.  My elderly neighbor was threatened by the man that called.  She told him that she was not interested but he just kept on telling her all kinds of crap that this would happen or that would happen if she didn't.    Anyway, they have taken 695.00 from her.  The card was cancelled, but now is the hard part getting her money back.  He keeps calling her and aggravating her.  We have turned him in, but he still says he's not refunding her money.  We are curious to how your situation turned out. Did you ever get rid of them and get your money back?  Thanks for interacting...  "Concerned"

I got a call today and asked how they got my number.  They had no clue and a supervisor came on the phone.  He said I needed to get a life and that he's not there to educate ignorant people on how life works.
I call the 1-800-343-3250 number he gave me and was put through to a "compliance officer". He was very nice and understanding and explained that the credit reporting agencies like equifax and transunion are selling our information to them.  He said he was also shocked when he heard this.  He actually agreed with everything I said so I soon realized I was being handled.

I feel bad for people working for a company like this.  If they aren't breaking any laws, they are certainly on questionable moral ground and I'm sure no one working there is proud of what they do.
