Caller gives your first name and suggest they are General Investigation Unit. They give no company name and request call back to 866-735-3599 and ask for Janice on Ext. 24813

Left a messge about getting info on a neighbor.  Supposed to call ASAP.  When I called the number it said to call 911 if this is an emergency.  Christine called.

They left what I think was an intimidating message, saying that they were looking for a person who had listed me as a friend, then went on to say they had seen my name on that persons facebook page. Then went on to say I Had to call them back to assist them in finding that person. Ha ha, the only thing I had to do was post this so hopefully other people will tell them to BUG OFF!!!!  Which if they call my house one more time I am gonna tell them the same thing but not so nice.  Trying to act like a police agency would not scare me in the first place, however, it would be nice if we had some sort of policing of this kind of activity.

Someone left a similar message saying she was with General Investigations and to call Michelle back at ext 24760. I'm not sure how they got my unlisted phone number, but I am not very happy about it!

These people are legit and they wouldn't have to call you people if your friends and family weren't dead beats and paid their bills like us honest americans.

They called looking for my ex-husband.  Seems he hasn't been making his Harley Davidson payments.  I didn't take the call, but they left a detailed message.  Isn't it against the law to contact friends and family for a debt?  The company name was General Investigations.

called and said they were investigating and urgent matter.    This is fraud and harassment.

Received a call on my answering machine. Michelle said she was from General Investigators to call them back to answers some questions. extension 26521. They answer with if this is an emergency call 911, then when you call the extension number no one answers. They tell you to leave your name and someone will call you back.  Now after reading these posts I'm worried that I should not have called them back.  What should I do?  Is this an identity theft scam?

they left a message with a friend of mine for my ex husband but they used my name. They were able to get my ex mothers name and information about my ex husbands family.. it is funny cuz we have been divorced for 5 years now...

Then decided to check the number on line because it is illegal to give a persons information out like they did.... i started to ask information and they backed down

Check state and federal laws.  when they do this kind of stuff u can write a letter to them & take them to court.  File a suit and get back some of that money they so easily steal.

Under federal law and most likely your state law, anyone can be pestered to "obtain location" intel on an alleged debtor. What's illegal is discussing a debt account with any of those third parties. What's also illegal, but a hard to prove common strategy, is the collector needlessly continuing to hammer those people to create false shame. This is done under a legal pretense that everyone is lying until the suspect comes out with his wallet open. Amazing, is it not, how an agency's access to multiple databases of consumer footprints can yield everyone and the neighbor's dog but not the desired target.

The pattern of comments points to vehicle repo and a great deal of illegal posing as law enforcement. So then I remembered this little chat:

My wager is on Brombacker & Williams Associates or its spawn as the culprits here. This all sounds so close to the fake payday loan thug routine, if not for the vehicle debt and the reports of physical encounters with BWA agents.

Anyway, you should not entertain the thought of payment to or compliance with such lawbreakers as these. You don't need to submit to any interrogations, and in fact you should only be on the phone with a recorder to gather evidence of regulatory violations.

One caveat here: It remains unclear if this firm retains a U.S. presence. You cannot sue what you cannot find within our borders. Nonetheless, learning the industry rules and how they are being broken will put you way ahead of the lies and threats of the worst actors in collections.

Sounds really fishy to me... makes one paranoid when they say "general investigation"  glad I found this website so I will never pick up that phone call from  EVER!!!

Called looking for an ex, definitely a debt collection agency:  'Julie from General Investigations',  saying it was an urgent matter!...blah blah blah

caller called me and said they were looking for a gold ranger truck in my posession. I have never drove a ford ranger. And when i called back they blocked my number. Can u say SCAM! LOL

This is a company called "General Investigations" or something similar that typically works for Ford Motor Credit trying to repossess cars.

Ford has a bad habit of breaking payment arrangements and trying to repossess a car anyway.

I was out of work and made a payment arrangement to pay at the end of the month.  Ford put it out for repossession anyway.  The Ford Mesa AZ office will say anything they can to make a buck.

Julie with "General Investigations" keeps calling.  I had already called Ford Credit and made a payment arrangement.

Do Not Call These People.  They will lie to get your car and will say or do anything.  In the mean time, keep your payment arrangement.  If they don't get ahold of you, they can not add their fee to your account.  Keep in touch with the original creditor.

I get this same phone call at least once a week! Saying this is Julie from General Investigations and she need me ask me a couple of couples and wants me to call her back at 800-735-3599 ext 29865. Thank god for smart phones that records and transcribes voice messages b/c otherwise I would probably had called the number back. What and who is General Investagations??
