- Rich| 3 repliesI received a call today 10-13-14 who said he was from Publishers Clearing House and that I had been solicited as the 2 prize winner. He said. " I had won $950,000.00 and a new 2015 Mercedes." He then had me call a Mr. John Ford in the clams department and that's when things started to sound a little fishy. To make a long story short after asking me to verify my name, address, occupation, age, and phone number, he wanted me to go to Rite Aid and purchase 7 Vanilla reload paper scratch off cards with $500.00 on 6 of the cards and $200.00 on 1 of the cards for a total of $3,500. He said, I was to show the cards and the receipt to the driver who would come to my door. The driver would give me the keys to the new car and escort me to my bank to deposit the major prize money. I asked him where he was located and he said 101 Winner Cir., Washington, DC. The cards were to verify that I had the money to pay the 5% tax and that PCH would pay the other 95% tax on the winnings. As the conversation went along I talked him down to 2 cards with $500.00 each. He said he needed to stay on the line while I drive down to Rite Aid and get the cards and then he would contact the driver to make the delivery. I hung up on him and he called me back. I hung up a second time. I went on PCH web page and found this "Only PCH is authorized to notify you of a win from a PCH giveaway. There are never any strings attached to winning a Publishers Clearing House prize. We do not ask for bank account information. There is no processing fee, tax or special handling charge required to win and our prizes are delivered free of charge to the winners. If you are asked to send any money, for any reason, to collect a prize - STOP - you have not heard from the real Publishers Clearing House". I contacted the PCH hot line 1-800-392-4190 I got off their web page and informed them of the calls. They said it was a scam and if they called back just hang up on them. As I was writing this I received a 3rd call from these people and he ask if I had gotten the cards yet. I informed him that I contacted PCH HOT line and that this was a scam and hung up on him. The scammers phone numbers used were:

- marcyb replies to RichThanks for putting this out. I just received a call from the 1073 # only my phone identifies the country of origin, which was Jamaica. I did not answer and looked up the number and saw all the mess about it which confirmed what I suspected. So they are still at it out there. Thanks again!
- ED03/24/15 - received call from this number, I won 950K and a 2015 Malibu... got get $950 CASH to pay for Insurance and confirmation I was the legit winner and then meet at Wal-Mart?????????????????? SCAM SCAM SCAM
- Randy replies to RichI got the same call. I listened to his lines and lies. Then I told him I already had too much money and too many cars so I was not interested. My family is on the same phone plan and they all got calls from Jamaca saying we had all won.
I'm always tempted to keep the guy on the line as long as possible... Ask him to hold for a second then put the phone down and read the newspaper or anything to waste his time. - AnonMale claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House--very noisy call with lots of background noise and children yelling (red flag). Asked if I remembered signing up for a sweepstakes at Walgreen's or Walmart - which I did not (red flag). Then he asked if I was still residing in [my current state], which I told him I was not. He asked me to update my current residence so I could receive a check (amount not disclosed) today, but I didn't believe him so I asked him again what I won, and he changed it to "a large check and Mercedes Benz." Seemed highly suspicious to me so I hung up. Also Jamaica area codes are notorious for scams.
- Evelyn CannonFraudster said I had won a competition , that I had signed up at a grocery store or gas station or doctors office. I never enter random competitions. The caller didn't know my name or anything.
- NancyCall received on 10/21 from 876-554-3615. Was told it was PCH and I had won 2nd prize of a car and a check. I was going out so was told to call back at 876-558-8691. On my return home I used the caller look up and knew I would not call them back. I have since received 2 calls from the 554-3615 number and one from 855-1073. I am disabling my phone.
- NikkiI received a call from a Jamaica number saying I won a Malibu and $35,000. They continued to ask for all my info and then started asking for money. The lady on the phone said that I needed to go to safeway and get a western union form and to send $350 to the name RoxRoy. She said the money was to pay for the title and registration of the vehicle. I hung up and called PCH and verified with them that it was a scam.
The lady proceeded to call me back 7 TIMES!!! Before I answered. She claimed a second time that she was from PCH and I responded with "I just called PCH and they told me that they would never ask for money in return for their prizes."
Trying to cover her butt the lady started saying that she never identified herself as someone from PCH and that she was from a third party that worked with PCH.
After I told her not to call back she started saying very offensive sexual things to me and I hung up immediately!
She tried calling back again!
I finally had to block out of country calls because they wouldn't stop! - Nikki replies to hdI had the same people say some nasty sexual things to me over the phone also! It scared the life out of me!
- RonnieI received a call from this number on 2-18-16 but did not answer.
- ZebThis greasy sounding dude just rang my phone, i answered, and he told me I had also won 2nd place, didn't tell me a price, but that i must have entered at a Walmart or some other place. I haven't been in a Walmart in about a year, definitely not entering in anything. And he asked if I was home. I explained I was working at the time so he gave me his greasy supervisors name and number. Jim Peterson 1-876-460-3519. If anyone here wants to claim it have at it. They don't know who they are calling about anyways. The number the original call came in on was 1-876-855-1073. Just for kicks and giggles if you call up ask for the person by a different name and see what happens. Haha what a bunch of corn holes.

- MPThis is a part of the Jamaican sweepstakes scam. All operatives are out of Jamaica. They've been busted by the FBI but are still operating. BIG ILLEGAL SCAM. The show "American Greed" dedicated an entire episode to this scam.

- DaFoxDO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
876 is not a "Toll Free 800 number", it's the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica.
Jamaican scammers have long used the miss conception to trick victims into calling back, sometimes dinging large long distance/international call rates along with tricking money out of them.
Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Publishers Clearing House never requires any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.
Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.
"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees, and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize – DON’T! It’s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it’s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON’T. The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!"
Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award. PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award. Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ‘live and in person’ by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification! - Jana iktamCall police if they call.
