"Jamaican arrested in Orlando for lottery scam

    ORLANDO --

A Jamaican man was arrested in Orlando Tuesday in connection with a lottery scam federal officials say targeted the elderly.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrest of Oneike Mickhale Barnett.

Investigators said Barnett was behind a scam since 2008, in which he and others working with him called their victims using the Internet and told them they won the lottery, but had to pay thousands of dollars in fees to release the money.

The winnings were never paid and the money the victims sent was forwarded to Jamaica, according to federal authorities.

Barnett was charged with conspiracy and 37 counts of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years for each count.

Federal investigators said they will continue to work with officials in Jamaica to continue to crack down on such scams."

    Thia
I wonder how much, if any at all, of that stolen money will be recovered and returned.

(In other news, your subject made me chuckle. Well played.)

Such good news too! :) Yeah!   It only goes to show that those filed reports do work even if they do take times to actually nail these scammers!

Bob Foster...876-522-9981...called with a story that I was picked in a raffle supported by the pch...I was the lucky winner of 7.5 million and a pearl white benz...I was told he was in a city very close by so I had to go to Walgreens to purchase a card I have never heard of...a green duck money scratch off...sine his company already covered the 99,000.00 tax...I only had to load 500.00.  He insisted I stay on the line with him the entire time...also had to call him back within 30 sec to have this jaunt to the bank and  to the store... went along as I pretended to have to brush my teeth and dress...all the while already had my dog in the car to get to his vet...this guy was very eerie...boiiom line...he was tracking me on my phone...knew where I lived and my name,,,I went anto the police station and filed a crime report...this was after hanging up...he continued to call...the officer taking the report answered the unending calling and demanded he never call me again,,,Mr.Foster ask him where I was! The officer informed him I was right beside him and that he would NEVER stop calling me,,,,the officer informed him we were filing a warrant for his arrest...this went on and on...needless to say I am exhausted...He did know exactly where I live...this is over the top...I do have extra police protection in place....these tracking apps should be outlawed...it is Big Brother on steroids. Guns are our friends...we must get our privacy back...it is US and then there is THEM.  Our country must keep our rights to bear arms...the tracking apps must GO.
