- JDI recieved a call yesterday, on my cell phone and at work. They told me they were contacting me for a check fraud charge and that if I did not respond they would be suing me.
I called them back, and the guy who was supposedly my case manager was rude, and the second I told him I filed Bankruptcy about a year ago, after what he said the fraud occured, he said "I will see you in court" and hung up the phone. I tried calling back, and he hung up on me a second time.
They are trying to scare people out of money, dont fall for it.- Caller: Forensic Check Services

- MeganRheanna| 4 repliesI received a call from them today stating that they are filing suit against me and if I didn't contact them immediately they would proceed with the filinging. I called them back the lady was super nice explained I owed money to a payday advance place from back in 2011. They told me I would have to make a payment in order to stop the filing so I wasn't sure is it was a scam or not. it sounds legit to me but it also sounds like a scam

- Tamianth replies to MeganRheanna| 2 repliesAs per the FDCPA, they need to send you via the us mail, proof of debt. If they want a green dot card or any similar untraceable card for payment, run, do not walk away. If they refuse to give you a legal name, address (not a PO BOX) or other verifiable info, repeat..
You should always contact the company you took a loan out with first to see who they sold it to and who actually holds the rights to collect. Also check your credit, it should show. Your entitled to a free credit report once a year from all three.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

http://www.fraud.org/ - MeganRheanna replies to Tamianth| 1 replyThank you so much for all the helpful information. I did call the payday place who I owe money to they said they have never heard of forensic check services and the company who owns my debt didn't match the other company mentioned during my call. Should have came here first. Hope no one else gets scammed like I did.

I haven't returned their calls yet. My debts are being paid thru a chapter 13 bankruptcy plan. Should I call these people and tell them this??? I just don't feel like being harassed if they are not legit.

- Dee from PA replies to C Wells| 1 replyI haven't called these people back yet. But, I keep seeing Bayside Payday Loans in these posts. I never heard of them, and I certainly never took out a loan from them. Should I bother calling them back, or is this a scam???
- C Wells replies to Dee from PAWhether you call is up to you. I have a attorney who I plan on calling in the morning. I don't like being harassed. I've never heard of a company calling and leaving messages like this. I called because I wanted to hear what he had to say.
- annoyedCame through as a restricted number, gave no identifiing name or company name. Said it was for a check fraud. SCAM. Not calling back...
- jamie miller replies to CC| 1 replyI got a call from this number yesterday saying I had fraudulent
charges against me to respond immediately with case number bla bla bla.
What made me suspiciouse was the laughing I heard in the background before the man started with his speech.I called the number back and was put on hold so she could check the information associated with the account. I hung up. She called me back and said theres been charges filed, she knew my county and social security number. I asked what company filed she said a loan on line. She said there were 3 payments made and then nothing since 2011. I said that loan was paid , she got nasty and loud and said we will see you in court. I SAID SEE YA. - Beyond Upset replies to lachelle| 1 replyThey told me the same thing also. That I defaulted on a loan from Bayside Lending, and that I was being charged with check fraud. I never heard on Bayside Lending, let alone take a loan from them. I'm wondering if I am dealing with identity theft. and now I'm scared i will have to go to court over a loan that I did not take.
- Elspeth replies to Beyond UpsetIt's a scam. Debt is civil, not criminal, so even if you did default on a loan, you cannot be charged with "check fraud". And if you are a victim of identity theft, you still have nothing to worry about - per federal law, victims of ID theft are NOT liable for debts incurred by the thief in their name. Please do report these losers to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General. Read what Tamianth posted further down in this thread - she's posted a lot of good advice. And please - don't get yourself worked up over nothing. That's what scammers do - they make you upset so you act first, and think later.
- LaughingGot a call from this company in friday said I committed fraud by using my wifes email account which I always use and that I owe Bayside 732.00. She said they have filed court papers n there is no way around it. I said well if u know so much about me give me my entire social she couldnt so I went along with her and asked her when did I take this loan out she said April 2013. I said really well give me two hrs n call me back she never did. So I called the FTC, ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE PROSECUTOR OFFICE and they all laughed then I looked this company up on the BBB no such company then I filed a complaint with ics. Then yesterday they switched to using a new phone number out of Alexandria Ky and I traced it to a phone card. They are so desperate. They messed up when the lady said let me put u on hold and she didnt she asked the guy hey she willing to pay what amount should I say. So sad
