I and family members getting hassled by a so-called debt collector.They continue to harass and no one answers.

Caller ID reflected "withheld" - voicemail provided a callback phone number & case number for pending legal action against a man with a last name similar to mine, assuming he was my family member.

Months ago I received similar calls with messages regarding this "very urgent information."  I have no family member by the name the caller wanted to reach.

I have not responded to any of the calls nor will I.

They called my husband at WORK, not home, saying they were going to present him with papers there unless he called them within an hour. I called and they claim he owed on a credit card from 2008. I informed them he did not have this card and for them to send me proof in mail this acc exsisted. Man got mad. I told him any paper has to be sent to my home notvwork. Someone is always home. They claimed they attempted 3 times. [***], there is always someone home. He said he will resubmit processor. I am calling Attorney General on these people

Same here. The guy says his name is steve tayler. Calls restricted and left a message saying pending legal action. Im reporting the voicemail and number to the police. You should all do the same. Seems like a scam. Probably gets someone to answer scares them then gets them to pay him for a fake debt.

Ok ppl this guy also pulled your credit report! I just got off the phone with experian and they said its a fraudulent credit pull and they are looking into it. So please go check your credit report. Call experian and tell them what happened and you need a free report if u cant afford to buy it. Go to your local police and make a report. Also post any info u have so we can tell the investigators. Thanks

This Company called my JOB and spoke to the HR dept. telling them they were going to serve me with papers. These people are aggressive and still will not be getting a dime from me!! They have various numbers they contact you with. write them a cease letter and they will leave you alone.

Received a call from a private number with a very nasty message: "Hello, this is Michael Turner, this is a very urgent message for [their names withheld], I'm actually calling in reference to a complaint that was forwarded to my office. If you wish to discuss the possible pending action being filed against you, you would need to get in contact with the issuing agency's legal department immediately. Phone number is 877-443-3829. Reference file #20151278 when contacting this office, thank you."

First off, I don't know how they got a hold of my phone number. Secondly, the name they mentioned does belong to someone I know but no longer have any relation to. I have no intention of calling them back.

Just received a call on my cell phone for someone I know stating that sherriff was looking for this person as a summons had been issued and legal action was being taken.  Caller also claimed his name was Michael Turner and got mad when I laughed about them trying to contact someone else through me.  He told me I shouldn't be laughing about such a serious legal matter.  I told him there was no need to give me attitude as I wasn't the person he was trying to reach and I did not have her contact information.  He refused to give me any other information as to why they were trying to reach this person, just saying again that it was a very serious matter and they could help her.  After some going back and forth, I took down his number and the file number so that I would have proof of his call.

You are receiving calls from what is referred to as a Zombie Debt / Dead Debt / Non-Existent Debt Collector. They purchase a database of consumer information. This database's consumer information is collected so if you have;
- applied for an online loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for a payday loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for a title loan (regardless if you received one)
- applied for debt consolidation online (regardless if you went through with it)
- paid off any or all of the above.
- a company you were doing business with (insurance, credit, etc.) had their database hacked into.
Then there's an awful strong possibility your name is in the database that the Zombie Debt Collector currently has in their possession and are going down the list using any info they have to sound legit.

It does not matter if you tell these callers that you;
- never took out a loan.
- paid the loans off and have proof.
- filed and or received a partial or full bankruptcy discharge.
They will ask for more info (your social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, etc.), anything that will assist with adding to the database and sell it. They will ask for proof. They might even tell you that the money supposedly owed can not be covered under any US Bankruptcy laws / court decision. (FALSE)

Always remember..
- Legitimate companies DO NOT hesitate to state their company name immediately when calling, whether it's leaving a message or you answered the phone.
- Legitimate companies DO NOT spoof a phone number (deliberately falsifying a telephone number and/or name relayed as the Caller ID information to disguise the identity of the calling party.)
- Legitimate companies DO NOT call posing as a "process server" or "legal locator" with threats of being prosecuted, served papers, or going to court. (Note: Process servers don't call you ahead of time, leave a different number to call back while giving you a last chance to "pay up". Process servers show up and serve.)
- Legitimate debt collection companies MUST send you a letter by United States Postal Service postmarked 5 days from initial contact. That letter should clearly list their company letterhead and information and the original lender of any loan with the accurate dates, the account (bank or credit union) for which it was deposited and the contact information of the original lender.
- NEVER give your full or partial social security number, date of birth, full name, etc should they ask this info for "verification" that it is you they are speaking to. *This is referred to as "phishing". It's an easy way to have your identity stolen.
- Should you accidentally answer a call from any Zombie Debt Collector or Debt scammer, make sure to Write down the time, date, phone number(s), person calling, company name, conversation and any details of the call.
