Calls come in as an external call, saying that they need to talk to you regarding an important matter and that it is very important that you return their call.  When I returned their call, they identified themselves as Windham (sp?) Professionals and that they were attempting to collect on a defaulted student loan

several calls from this number over a 2yr period stating they are trying to collect on a sallymae student loan and they have sent a letter to my employer to garnish my wages. Upon telling them they have the wrong person, they give me a DOB and when I reply it is not me, they try and get me to give them mine! I have also reported them on the Do Not Call list as well as FCC

Report them to your state's Attorney General (www.naag.org).

You guys are idiots.. .pay your FEDERAL student loans back. They are trying to help you

Remember that the CFPB now has jurisdiction over student loans, their collection, and collection practices.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
