- austin| 1 replyGot a message from this number asking for Eva/Ava Hill (now where CLOSE to accurate) asking me to call back, (877) 719-4440, extension 5526, and reference number 388480. Even if it was real, what kind of hoops does one have to go through to return a call?

- PattyReceived a call today from this company asking for my neighbor who died last year. The call was a pre-recorded message and said to press 1 if I were the person in question, or 2 if I was not. Obviously, I pressed 2 and was asked to call 1-877-719-4440. I called the number back (which was the same number displayed on caller ID) and after several rounds with the calling tree, finally reached a person. I confirmed that this was a collection agency and asked them never to call me again and that it was unprofessional to call a neighbor to try and reach someone for collections. They stated that my neighbor had listed me as a contact, which I doubt. I've had other collection calls for the same person. It's a sad day when the neighbors get harrassed for someone's finances. Anyway, this company is a collection agency who may be trying to reach one of your neighbors for collection!

- Patty replies to no such person| 1 replyIs your neighbor Wayne Thompson? You could be receiving calls because you live near someone who owes money to a collection agency. See my posting today.
- JCvP| 4 repliesThis number is owned by a collection agency identified in the recording as Windham Professionals. The robotic voice asks for someone who doesn't exist. The recording says there's a way to get off the call list, but I didn't try it since I'm not sure what would really happen if I did.

- A helpful person replies to larry| 4 repliesLarry, while I am glad to hear that you were able to get back on track and right a ship that had gone wrong, I do how ever find it upsetting that you would be that degrading towards that company. I pride myself that I have for the last three years worked for Windham Professionals. This is the only type of collections I could ever do because it truly does help the consumer; there is a program that was developed by the government and run by them to help consumers who have found themselves in a defaulted situation. That program is the Rehabilitation Program, as I am sure you know about. That program allows a defaulted consumer to enter into repayments for ten to twelve months, then have the default removed from their credit as if they never went into default at all. Also at the end of the program depending on the remaining balance of the account the consumer can have anywhere from nine to thirty years to repay if they need it. Now the repayment amounts are determined by a percentage of the loan that is set forth by the Federal Dept of Education themselves. That is all the agency can do. Anything else is taken case by case basis by the client. Ninety nine percent of the time the Federal Dept of Education does require any where from a ten to twenty percent initial payment. So however I am sorry if your experience with our company might have been uncomfortable please do not degrade them for simply asking you to do what it is that you promised to do in the very begging of your schooling, paying the borrowed amount back.
- Pam| 1 replyWhen they call they hold the phone line somehow so you can't hang it up during their recording. I have to unplug the phone jack to get it to disconnect. Isn't that against FCC regulations? I believe so.
Also they are calling for someone who has nothing to do with an adult's debt.
We told them that we are not responsible for the debt and they still keep calling.
We did not sign anything regarding this person's debt. Next time you call we will be filing charges against you with the FCC.- Caller: Wyndham Unprofessionals

- Filing Suit replies to A helpful personThe practices of this company are in blatant violation of FCC regulations and the Creditor Harassment Laws. My student loan is paid off, and has been for a number of years. Still, these people looked up my 89 year-old grandmother and proceeded to tell her that I was going to jail unless she gave them all the information they wanted about me right that minute. They had not called me. They had not contacted me. I have never put her name on any of my paperwork as a contact, and she is not my 'closest living relative' or 'next of kin'. She doesn't even live in the same state as me. I spoke to a case worker at EdFund (who I worked with paying off my loan) and they verified that my case is closed and was never forwarded to anyone. I have since contacted my attorney, and I will be filing suit.
- Mike| 1 replyI've gotten 6 calls from this place in the past 2 days on my WORK line... and they don't even have the correct person (same first name, different last name, and incorrect last 4 digits of my social)
And to top it off... if this is about any sorta federal student loan... I've never had any! I graduated from college 10 years ago and paid for it via academic scholarships and my parents helping out... since then I've paid out of pocket for my grad degree.... these places really are annoying- Caller: Windham

- nodenyingNo denying I have debts .. but I have a special needs child, have been unemployed since November 2008 and I get NO government assistance my husband and I are squeaking by on his salary with 2 kids. These people are vile! I am even going through another recovery program and yet they call and threaten me and have called my 78 year old grandmother and threatened her. On the day my father passed away and I stupidly answered the phone the representative accused me of lying and started to blast me before I hung up on him. Once again VILE!

- tired of lying [***] replies to A helpful personI'm tired of these lying Windham [***]!
- No denial either| 2 repliesMy Inlaws got a call from them and after reading this I do not want to call them either. I am unemployed mom of 3. One with special needs. Constant meetings and calls with school. We have no extra money. Barely make it to next paycheck. If I could afford to pay, I would. At this point daycare costs more that I would make so it is difficult. How do I get them to not call family?
- Caller: Windham Professionals
- Jay| 2 repliesThey called asking for an individual who I know. I told them that the individual does not live here. They politely excused themselves and hung up.
I do know the individual, and I was no doubt listed as a contact. There is nothing unprofessional about this. A family member and non family member of a debtor is a typical request in the credit industry.
I respected their call and they respected me. They are courteous over the phone, and I sometimes wonder whether people are respectfully answering their calls.
Even if it is your own debt they request, just calmly tell them you are on hard times and cannot afford to make payments. In cases in which they are persistent, repeat that you cannot pay and explain the circumstances. They will be understandable. (They have no choice. You can't get blood from a stone.) Avoid being caustic, and do not say you refuse to pay. Just tell them you are unable to afford payments at this time.
May you fall on better times. God bless. (And good luck to you non-believers.)- Call type: Debt collector
- Jay replies to No denial either| 1 replyIf you would like to avoid having your family called, I recommend you allow the company to contact you directly. That way they will have no reason to call your family. In addition, it should be okay for them to request that no further calls come to their number.
Though some callers may be aggressive, most will be understanding. Even if they are not understanding, it will still help for records to show that you were calm and understanding over the phone with them.
They cannot take money that you do not have. Just explain to them that you are unemployed. Don't contradict yourself by saying you can't make it to next paycheck. If your husband is employed, just say that your family cannot afford to make payments at this time. If they ask whether you intend to pay, just keep saying you cannot afford to make payments at this time, but you will as soon as you are able.
That is truth, and it should suffice. Also, don't forget to drop in and tell us how it goes. Hopefully your talking to them will be a better experience than others'.
