    Tired of Scammers
A man named "James Howard" from Litigation Services called my cell number stating that he had documents filed under my name (never said my actual name) and proceeded to give me a reference number, asking him to call back at 888-412-6738. He then stated that if he did not hear from me or my attorney, he would assume I've waived my rights and proceed with litigation against me.

First of all, I do NOT have anything under me that would cause someone to call me like this. Second, how dare they pull this scam crap. I will be reporting it to the FTC and my state's attorney. These jerks need stopped!

We received a recorded message regarding pending litigation--"you will be served with court proceedings at your place of employment" etc--and instructions to "press 9" to speak with an agent, who had my partner's name, last four digits of SS, and correct date of birth. The "agent" said they were "Process Mediation" and had bought an old debt (that was settled in 1998!) from Fleet Bank. I told him he would have to send me the information in writing, and he 'hung up' on me. I immediately did a reverse lookup on the number and have blocked it from my phone.

    Sick of this in PA
Just had the same call 2 days in a row from James Howard from Process Mediation in Delaware.  The same thing happened to my brother, but caller was from Philadelphia.  The callers get pretty mean because they want money.  If you answer by mistake, ALWAYS ask for information in writing....they will then get rude and most likely disconnect the call.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

We just got the same message saying my wife owes money from 2006. We called back and spoke to a very rude woman and her "supervisor". It's obviously a total scam, but the scary part is that they have my wife's full name and full social security number. Any advice on what she should do?

Just had the same exact thing happen to me, although they had the wrong 2 digits in my SSN.  Said it was a debt from a company (HSBC), that was bought by another company (Capital One), both accounts of which are open and have zero balances.  The problem is, these scammers are no longer just in nigeria and foreign countries....they are in our own backyard!  Very scary.
