Company named, Mercantile Adjustment Bureau, keeps calling for a person UNKNOWN to me.  When I tried to call to have them REMOVE my cell # from their records, I reached a MR. BAKER who was VERY rude.  So, I hung up on him.  Have now requested through their website that they remove MY cell # from their records.  Otherwise, MY next step will be to report them to the State Attorney General!   Thanks.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau.....they are a debt collection agency. They can call all they want. This debt is actually over 18 yrs old. Sorry you bought it but the statute of limitations for you to contact me are over. This actually was missed in bankruptcy when I filed 18 yrs ago.

For months I have been receiving calls from this number with no way to call back or stop them for a person who has not lived here for over 15 years.  

They leave messages on my business line for that person with no way to respond.

I just received a call from this number and the collector was very rude.....and insisted that I provide him with my personal information Name, birthdate, address and social security #.  After I told him I was not giving him my ss# he said to do us both a favor and to give it him so "we" can stop this nonsense.  Who do I report this to?

Very rude person said her name was Michelle.  She said we was looking for Trent Anderson.  She refused to say what company she represented, how she got my number, and what she was calling about.  I don't know anyone by that name, but that's none of their business.  She started asking about my name, who I was, how long I had my phone number and a bunch of weird calls.

No surprise it is a debt collector.   I already sued 3 debt collection companies and WON for harassing calls like this and failure to remove me from their call list.

Got a call is morning from this number & answered it to find out who was calling.  They asked for a Stephanie Jones & when I said they had the wrong number, they wanted to know if I knew a Stephanie Jones - no, I don't.  I asked to have my number removed and he hung up without responding.  I called back & got another rude man who told me when requested numbers are always removed.  We'll see.

Bunch of total jerks! Not only have they been harrassing me via phone, they play dirty tricks—MEAN DIRTY TRICKS, even! I found a *REAL STICKER* on my garage door saying to call about a package that was attempted to be delivered. Found this as I went to my car in early am, but no one had ever attempted ANYTHING the day prior. And this wasn't from FedEx or UPS, who both use a Post-It type notice. They wouldn't ever use real stickers! Nor would they put a notice on a garage door, for heaven's sake! Not only is it insane, it's so stuck on from the sun baking it onto my garage door that it didn't come off 100%! I'm so livid!

The only possible debt this could be is charge for under $30 to my Kohls card. It's the only time I ever used the card. My ex was given the money to pay them, since he was going shopping @Kohls anyway… but APPARENTLY he must not have paid. It's the only thing I can think of that could've not been paid, since I never bothered to open add'l mail from them, thinking it was all "special savings" to entice me back to shop. (I'd been going thru a lot after grueling spinal surgery at the time and thought my now ex could help me out—just that *one* time!) Trusted the wrong guy 100%, because when he left for good, he also left behind a huge disasterous mess for *me* clean up. Not much of a stand-up guy, so it wouldn't surprise me if he never paid my charge off & kept the money.

I am stunned—cannot hardly believe a piddly amount like this results in THAT KIND OF IMMATURE/IMPROPER BEHAVIOR?! I'm also beyond angry now.... This deliberate and menacing act constitutes destruction of property, if you ask me. I'll need to scrape that sticky mess off with a blade *or* use caustic chemicals to remove it. Either way, I risk damage to the door! Such a mean & ugly thing to do to an already impoverished disabled woman who's ALWAYS paid her debts :(.

Their behavior doesn't make me want to resolve this years-old issue one bit. And if/when I do, I will be telling Kohl's the disgusting methods they use for a tiny debt like this one!! You should tell you debtor if they did nasty things to you, as well. Maybe they'll get fired—I can only hope!! This us the first time I've ever considered deliberately ignoring a debt, all due to the damage they did. If you ask me, we're even! Grr! I know none of this is Kohls fault, but it's soo wrong and adds a problem to my 'To Do' List at a very tough time. At the very least, Kohls needs to know the creepy lengths these people will go to. What would they do to someone with a very large debt?!

Got call from same outfit, Merchantile Adjusters. Left message stating they were debt collector's. I have old debt from back in 2003 and couple of bills unable to cover since I was totally unemployed in 2013-2014. Called from 888-784-2818.

they have called me about super old debt.... I blocked them! It would absolutely be the dumbest thing they've ever done to make a house call for on me!!! I am so sorry they did that to you! Shame on them! If they show up here it won't be a friendly visit...

Well, since they left you a message, they must now do this:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

In any case, you should do this:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation or cease and desist calling letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

I told them that I wasn't the person they were calling for nor did the person live here. I asked them to remove my number and they said they would. The ridiculous thing is they are still calling two weeks later. It is very difficult to believe these people when they are so dishonest!

They call CONSTANTLY.  Caller ID says Mercantile Adj.

This company, Mercantile Adj, calls my house constantly.  They are debt collectors.  I don't owe anybody any money so I assume it's a mistake and they are calling the wrong person.  They won't stop calling.
