They've been calling me, too, with the same line of crap. Here's what I found online about Credit & Check Filing, Inc. (appears they're branching out from NY ... I'm in FL):  "Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman (NY) today <Feb 18> announced a series of actions against Buffalo-area debt collectors who preyed on military personnel and vulnerable consumers .... Richard & Peggy Cerrone, are required to pay $85,000 in penalties and must take significant steps to clean up their business practices. Richard Cerrone owns and operates the Southern Tier Agency, Inc., Check & Credit Reporting, Inc., and Credit & Check Filing, Inc. Peggy Cerrone owns and operates the Cornerstone Resolution Group, Inc. The Investigation revealed the Cerrone companies repeatedly violated the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. On more than 30 occasions consumers have filed suit against the Cerrone companies. Moreover, consumers have submitted more than 200 complaints to the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, and the OAG against the Cerrones companies. The lawsuits and complaints allege that the Cerrone Companies improperly called consumers at their places of employment, threatened consumers with arrest, imprisonment, garnishment of wages, and freezing bank accounts.

I just got a voicemail from this number and it was almost exactly as stated above.  It was a recording that did not say my name, just that he had received some papers with my information on it and that I needed to contact the number within 24 hours or some decisions would be made without my knowledge.

its a scam to try to get your personal info so they can use it for their own devious purposes!!! dont respond!

They just called me as well. This is what they said: "Hi David, This is Tim Hanson calling from Frank (Gavel?) and associates office in reference with a case we have with your name and social security number attached. Due to some discrepancy we have  we would like to clarify with you a few things. Please give me a cal back at 888-907-0125 ext1. Here is the funny thing. The have called my mom's house and they knew my name. (I haven't lived there for at least 5 years) and now they are calling my cell phone, which isn't even in my name. i called the number back and it was the Credit and Check company as stated above. I believe they are complete scam artists.

Someone needs to take some action at our government level to put a stop to this BS, it isn't like people don't have enough to worry about these days without having to deal with unscrupulous, heartless S.O.B's.

A guy by the name of Mike Andrews from the office of Frank Galbo, or Galpo (or something like that), claimed that they received docs with my name & SS# with a discrepancy, and that they needed me to call asap to resolve it before a decision would be made without my knowledge. The whole thing just sounded vague and suspicious. It sounds like a phone version of phishing. I just ignored it.

I have actually contacted them and they had information on an old debt that i wanted to pay off anyway. They offered me a deal in which I pay only 70% of what I owe. They seem persistent on getting a credit card on file. I made the first payment with a disposable credit card, but got no receipt- only a confirmation # . that payment was $50...I now want to pay the bill off, but am a bit unwilling to just give any ole company the remaining $430 balance. So my question is this; does anyone know if they are a legit debt collector? I have found many articles and web sites that says they are, but they have "illegal" ways of contacting people. Is this a scam company or are they actually debt collectors?

Dave, I too received a call from CCF and I called them and they too gave me a heck of a deal on a debt that I do owe and I want to pay.  I did give them my info and am taking a big chance but I believe they are going to do good by me and only take what is owed.  I will let you know what happens, but I do feel they will be honest with me as I was up front with them.  They were not harsh or rude, they were willing to help me get this paid off. So we will see...

i received a cALL today telling me to be home between 9 and 3 to be served.  did not identify why and who they were calling for.  i am not worried.

i am receiving threats indication i need to be home to receive a summon between 9 and 3 and this is not a joke.  i hung up the phone on them

they have a new number and it is a Voip. 1888-907-3631 I was told that they were starting legal action because I had contacted them more than twice about a bill that is not even mine!

A rep by the name  of Aaron Rice has been calling my husband and when I called back he says that since Im his spouse, I own the debt too. Well today their "personal currier" asked me to come outside at my place of employment to sign a court summons for my husband, but if I leave work before he showed, it would be an automatic refusal to pay and they would arrest him and detain him for up to 48 hours.

He stressed that I needed to do this to save my husband!

Did you get a call from Frank Galbo and a Mike Andrews. Now I believe they are calling themselves Cornerstone Resolutions Group Inc and they are a also a payday advance too according to google. Did they threaten you with arrest, incarceration of anything like that? Because they did to me. The number they are using now is 1-888-590-2265. It's not a scam. It's an attempt to collect a debt. Pay your bills and you won't get the calls

I also have been getting calls from Aaron Rice from Cornerstone Resolutions. He said I was suppose to got a payday loan in 2005 from Cash America. I did call and he said that I had crimnal and civil chargrs against me.  He ask if iwould pay.  He said I had got $450.00 and HE WOULD LOKE FOR ME TOO PAY. I told him I would see what I could do   I didn't say I would pay.  He is now saying I would.  Threating to ge Mr pick up and if I'm in jail now it's my fault.  I call and went around where I live and the payday loan places don't have anything on me , they even said I could get a loan.  They gave me the Florida database number and they even said I was ok.  I get so sickat my stomach when I get these calls

I just got a call from this company as well about a fraudulent checks written in 2007 from that exact number. not sure what to think...

I received two calls from this phony company.  First they called my work # and then called my house # which I have never given out for anything.   I live with my 88 year old grandmother who is in bad health and they told her that I had a pending court case and that I needed to return the call by 7:00 pm or papers would be filed.  The lady that called was named Corey Roberts.  She gave me some phony case # which doesn't mean anything.  It's just scare tactics to make you think that you are about to get sued.  I have never received any documentation in the mail pertaining to this so called case they claim they have on file for me.  My main # that I use for everything is my cell# and they never once called that #.  When I called them back and spoke to Corey Roberts she said it is from a payday loan from 2008 for Impact Cash.  I did take out a loan with them but had paid back 3 times the amount that was borrowed.  When I explained this to her she stated that's not what she shows and that if I never received a paid in full letter than the debt is valid.  100% a complete lie.  I asked her to send me documentation in the mail and she stated that she does not have to and her company is not required to send any documentation.  This company, and I use that word loosely, is nothing more than a low lever bottom feeder debt collector.  Corey Roberts asked if I would like to speak to an attorney and I stated not until they send me something official in the mail.  I then asked if they were a law office and she refused to answer.  By law a debt collector has 5 business days from the date of contact to send legal documentation.  These clowns broke about 3 or 4 FDCPA laws in one single call.  I advise anybody that is being contacted by these scam artists to request debt validation and to file complaints with your state's AG as well FTC.  DO NOT EVER SEND THEM ANY MONEY OR GIVE OUT ANY ADDITIONAL PERSONAL INFORMATION.  EVER.
